On The Nature Of Adolescent Jealousy, Mercedes Coto
On The Nature Of Adolescent Jealousy, Mercedes Coto
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Among the many issues that need to be addressed on jealousy research, a fundamental question that is yet to be answered is the characterization of the circumstances that elicit jealousy. From the behavioral perspective it is necessary to determine the antecedents related to the behavior being studied, the behavior itself, and finally its consequences. I propose to assess adolescents’ responses in given situations that might be regarded as jealousy evoking.

Increasing Staff Use Of Sign Language, Melanie Hepworth Neville
Increasing Staff Use Of Sign Language, Melanie Hepworth Neville
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the effectiveness of two procedures, a visual cue and performance posting, to modify the use of sign language by psychiatric technicians. The visual cue was first introduced alone, then paired with performance posting to encourage staff use of sign language with the developmentally disabled children in their charge. Application of the visual cue alone produced little change in staff sign useage. The visual cue plus performance posting condition increased staff use of sign language during mealtimes. Four weeks of follow-up data indicated that the use of sign language remained at a level well above baseline.

Approach Behaviors Of Incarcerated Child Molesters, Laura-Lee Griffith-Carrasquel
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The approach behaviors of 107 incarcerated child molesters at Atascadero State Hospital in California were examined through the use of an interview protocol and a 49-question questionnaire developed from the interview findings. The goal was to develop a data base for a molestation prevention program directed toward children. Results suggest that the sampled molesters were oriented to behaviors that commonly occur in friendship formation, including focusing attention on the child and his/her interests and attributes. These findings suggest that an effective prevention program could be very difficult to develop.
