Two Parallel Studies Investigating The Immediate And Longitudinal Attitude Values Of College Women Toward Elective Physical Activity, Rebecca Marie Lang

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

This parallel investigation was conducted to survey and to determine the immediate and longitudinal attitude values in selected college women following participation in elective physical activity classes. The expressed attitudes were measured by a modified Carlos L. Wear Physical Education Attitude Inventory adapted for use in this present study by the investigator.

Four experimental groups were chosen according to the cluster sampling technique, representing two life-time sport course offerings of badminton and women's fitness. Seventeen women enrolled in the fall fitness class and fourteen women in the fall badminton classes, comprised the longitudinal sample for this study. The spring semester …

A Comparative Study Of The Relative Incidence Of Various Vocal Parameters Among Black And White College Females, Barbara Kuhl Jacobs Jul 1975

A Comparative Study Of The Relative Incidence Of Various Vocal Parameters Among Black And White College Females, Barbara Kuhl Jacobs

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this study was to make a comparative investigation of the voice quality of black and white women. A review of the literature revealed considerable research has been conducted in the area of black-white language differences in the United States, but very little research has been conducted regarding comparisons of voice quality of Blacks and Whites. The suggestion that certain voice qualities are more characteristic of Blacks or Whites when compared as groups led the writer to pursue the present investigation.

The Effects Of Race And Potential For Conflict On Eye Behavior In Females, Deborah J. Barclay

Student Work

The number of studies in the area of nonverbal communication has increased rapidly during the last ten years. Researchers have investigated various codes people use to communication (nonverbally: body movement, vocal characteristics, touch, eye contact, and gestures). The influence of nonverbal communication on human interaction has led one researcher to conclude that no more than 35 percent of the social meaning of a message is carried in the verbal portion of a message, while 65 percent of a message's meaning is transmitted nonverbally (Harrison, 1965).

A Political Profile Of Utah Women, Ann Wassermann Jan 1973

A Political Profile Of Utah Women, Ann Wassermann

Undergraduate Honors Capstone Projects

This paper is a product of the desire to take advantage of the enormous amount of valuable data available in the files of the Bureau of Government and Opinion Research at Utah State University. The manpower and financial demands of doing the actual polling and getting the totals quickly to the public or private client make a detailed analysis of the conglomerate of studies a near impossibility.

It was my purpose to undertake a segment of just this type of research and integration of data. The increasing frequency with which women as a minority and voting group have been referred …

Family Planning Of Mormon Women In Three-Generation Families, Brent C. Miller

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

This intergenerational study compared the family planning and related attitudes of females who were daughter-mother-grandmother relatives. Questionnaire responses of eighty-one subjects in twenty-seven three-generation families were analyzed regarding birth control, abortion, and population crisis attitudes. Other variables studied included Mormon orthodoxy, education, and place of residence.

Except for abortion, the generations had significantly different attitudes. The oldest generation's attitudes, which were the most conservative, differed significantly when contrasted with the more similar attitudes of the middle and younger generations. Mormon orthodoxy was the most dramatically significant factor in attitude differences. Education and residence were not significant sources of attitude variance; …

The Lord's Definition Of Woman's Role As He Has Revealed It To His Prophets Of The Latter Day, Mildred Chandler Austin Jan 1972

The Lord's Definition Of Woman's Role As He Has Revealed It To His Prophets Of The Latter Day, Mildred Chandler Austin

Theses and Dissertations

The Lord has not left women to wonder how to perform during mortality. The teachings of the ten presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have given very satisfying answers to most questions, and have invited women to ask God for inspiration of their own for further, personalized direction.

The counsel of the prophets gives women directions concerning whom, when, and where to marry. However, if the proper opportunities for a Church-recommended marriage don't present themselves, women are told to be patient and to spend their time giving one of the several services for which they are …

By 1964, the number of employed women had doubled; there were then 25.8 million women workers. Out-of-the-home employment was actively engaging 37 percent of American women (7, p. 301). However, not only has there been an increase in the number of workers; there are also changes in the percent of women …

During the past century, vast and rapid changes have transpired in our national life. Many changes, too, have been brought about in American courtship, marriage, and family living patterns. Some of the most far-reaching changes have been those in the social and psychological roles of the individual in relation to the family.
