This chartbook describes Maine’s historical trends in meeting the needs of adults with ID/ASD through institutional and community based services in comparison to other states; a detailed analysis of the population’s utilization of different types of services and their costs in SFY 2010; the implementation of the Supports Intensity Scale (SIS) as a means of identifying the supports needs of the adults with ID/ASD; and the complement of providers serving this population in Maine.

Kebijakan pusat pelayanan kesehatan masyarakat (puskesmas) sebagai Badan Layanan Umum Daerah (BLUD) diimplentasikan untuk meningkatkan kualitas pelayanan kesehatan dasar. Kebijakan BLUD puskesmas telah diterapkan di Kabupaten Gianyar sejak tahun 2010 dan berlaku pada puskesmas perawatan maupun nonperawatan. Pelaksanaan BLUD puskesmas tidak selalu meningkatkan mutu layanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui gambaran mutu pelayanan puskesmas perawatan yang berstatus BLUD di Kabupaten Gianyar. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian potong lintang dengan pendekatan kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Tempat dan waktu penelitian ini dilakukan di Kabupaten Gianyar, Agustus hingga Desember 2013. A major goal for the health services research community is to provide evidence policymakers can use to improve the public’s health. However, it can be difficult to know what evidence policymakers want and how they decide what research to fund.

In order to understand where policymakers turn for evidence and how they make funding decisions amid fiscal and political constraints, AcademyHealth conducted a 3-part Fireside Chat series in the spring of 2014. This editorial summarizes the evidence gaps identified, and provides strategies for communicating with decision makers.

This study aims to identify the continuous action plan in Fatmawati General Hospital outpatient services in order to increase the Fatmawati General Hospital’s image. The study is conducted through interviewing patients, health workers, managements staff, and the macro analysis is done through policy analysis. The results showed that thegap in outpatient service is in the compatibility quality (service speed, drug completeness, comfort) and communication. The Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy is a year-long training program in leadership development and advocacy. Over 52 leaders from across the 8 state Delta Regional Authority service area (Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama) who work in the public, private and nonprofit sectors attended this session. At each session, the leaders study best practices in community and economic development, and learn from experts who share resources that these leaders can apply in their communities. This session provided findings on the economic burden of health disparities and interventions being used to address health disparities related to cancer.

In the United States, funding for the purchase of vaccines depend on annual Congressional allocations. These allocations fluctuate from year to year as Congress responds to changes in national needs for immunizations. The Affordable Care Act requires first dollar coverage of immunizations and other preventive care, allowing a reduction in federal funding for vaccine purchase and a reallocation of funds to other uses such as infrastructure development. In fiscal year 2012, the loss of funds allocated from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act required action by states to ensure appropriate use of remaining funds. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the U.S and a source of large racial and ethnic disparities in population health. Policy development is a powerful but sometimes overlooked public health tool for reducing cancer burden and disparities. As a way to reduce chronic diseases associated with increasingly sedentary lifestyles, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advocates community-wide initiatives promoting physical activity. One such initiative gaining popularity in the US is the Ciclovía, or Open Streets initiative, where city streets are opened to residents for physical activity and closed to motorized traffic.1 Open Streets gained international prominence in Bogota, Colombia, and are viewed by policy makers and health and community advocates as being beneficial to social, environmental, and community health.2 The interest in initiatives is demonstrated by the increase in the number of events within and across …
