Process Improvement To Return Stabilized Behavioral Health Patients To Primary Care, Tessa Woodroof
Epsilon Sigma at-Large Research Conference
Purpose: The purpose of this project is to increase the number of open patient appointments by implementing a validated process in which stabilized behavioral health patients are repatriated to primary care. Currently, there is an increased demand for behavioral health services and decreased supply of behavioral health clinicians at the Nashville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC).
Aims: This project aims to teach behavioral health providers how to identify appropriate patients and complete successful discharges while helping primary care providers integrate the repatriation process into their workflow. Without the proposed intervention, veterans initiating behavioral health services in the catchment area will …

Rethink Your Commute: Good For The Planet & You, Courtney Reynolds
Sustainability Conference
Transportation choices have a big impact on the environment, as well as individual health and wellness. Many times, people may feel like they don't have any other choice than to drive to get to school, work, and other places. But exploring other options can lead to more sustainable choices and save individuals a lot of money.
At reThink Your Commute, we help people make informed decisions on how, when, and where they travel. We do this by promoting sustainable choices, connecting people to local resources, and supporting equitable access to transportation options. This 10-minute presentation will provide an overview of …
Behind Closed Doors: A Look Into Gender Violence In The Military, Holly Rigel
Behind Closed Doors: A Look Into Gender Violence In The Military, Holly Rigel
INSPIRE Student Research and Engagement Conference
For decades the Army has been plagued by scandals involving soldiers assaulting soldiers and horrible violence that has left many broken or dead. Gender violence is a topic that is often not discussed enough among the general public and military personnel. Despite having the Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention or SHARP program in effect since 2008 as well as revising several policies to help to address the issue of gender violence, it remains at an all time high. But why, despite all of the training that the soldiers and leadership receive is this still an issue within the ranks. Taking …

What Makes A Cert Program Successful And Effective?, Dempsey Kraft, Wade Aaron Baker
ATU Research Symposium
There has been little research conducted about Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTs). Even so, previous research suggests that CERT programs present a viable option for increasing a community's disaster resilience by increasing preparedness education and building interpersonal bonds among community members. Still, additional research indicates that measuring the success of CERT is challenging to quantify. This study seeks to determine what makes a CERT program successful and effective.
Method
The researchers are utilizing purposive sampling and a structured questionnaire to interview CERT Program Coordinators. CERT Program Coordinators identified as potential participants were contacted via an email solicitation. This email provided …

China Containment In East Asia: Preventative Or Provocative?, Rachel Solsman
Helm's School of Government Conference - American Revival: Citizenship & Virtue
Since the end of World War II, the United States has developed and maintained its strategic alliances with Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, and Taiwan, and has worked to contain China through bolstering its deterrence strategy. However, after a century of humiliation, China is modernizing its military capabilities, improving in trade, and increasing political cohesion to become a regional hegemon. In light of these changes to the international order, the United States must re-evaluate its East Asian alliances and its current military and economic deterrence strategy against China. This paper will discuss the history of these alliances, the rise of …

Helm's School of Government Conference - American Revival: Citizenship & Virtue
The intent of this paper is to analyze the current state of the United States Security Strategy and the volatile condition of Afghanistan. Due to the shifting focus of the current administration, the United States has been left unprepared for the cultural, social, and political impacts of the American withdrawal from Afghanistan. With a critical assessment of the current security strategy and a profound shift in American political and militaristic goals, the United States can develop proper prevention and containment tactics to combat the reconstitution of Afghanistan as a terrorist haven and deter possible actions that might be taken against …

The Age Of Advanced Communication: Impacts Of Superpower Disinformation On U.S. Public Diplomacy, Kaitlyn Elizabeth Early
Helm's School of Government Conference - American Revival: Citizenship & Virtue
The age of advanced technology is among us. Beginning in the 1430s with the invention of the printing press, innovations such as the telegraph, radio, television, and the internet have changed the channels of communication, foreign and domestic, forever. Much of the previous research dominating the field of United States foreign policy focuses upon the age of disinformation. Some research pieces surrounding the impacts of communication tools on public diplomacy are outdated as technology is constantly changing. Rather, an up-to-date, comprehensive study of the shifting public diplomacy and media strategies due to these advanced communication tools would paint a thorough …
