Effects Of Early Bilingualism On Theory Of Mind Development Among Children In Economic Adversity, Rong Huang Jan 2022

Effects Of Early Bilingualism On Theory Of Mind Development Among Children In Economic Adversity, Rong Huang

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

The present study investigated the associations between bilingualism and Theory of Mind (ToM) development among children from low-income backgrounds. ToM is the capacities of understanding others’ mental states, such as beliefs, knowledge, or emotions, which develops rapidly during early childhood. Previous studies showed that bilingual experience may be associated with an enhanced ToM, while it is less known whether the similar effect can be generalized to the low-income populations. In addition, it remained unclear what role of Executive Function (EF) plays in the relationship between bilingualism and Theory of Mind in economically disadvantaged environments. The current study aims to address …

Youth With Adhd : The Impact Of The Clinical Anxiety On Neuropsychological Functioning, Elisabeth Jeanne O'Rourke Jan 2020

Youth With Adhd : The Impact Of The Clinical Anxiety On Neuropsychological Functioning, Elisabeth Jeanne O'Rourke

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

Children with ADHD demonstrate significant deficits in certain executive functions (EFs), including visual and verbal working memory, inhibitory control, cognitive flexibility, and sustained attention. Similar deficits have been observed in children with anxiety, however there is less evidence that inhibitory control is worse in these youth. More recently, research has examined the EF of children with comorbid ADHD and anxiety (ADHD + ANX). There is evidence that suggests that anxiety can play both a protective as well as harmful role for EF in these children. The current study sought to explore whether the performance of children with ADHD + ANX …

The Trends Study : Examining The Relationship Between Executive Function, Temperament, Quality Of Life, And Bmi In Young Adults, Renata Vaysman Jan 2015

The Trends Study : Examining The Relationship Between Executive Function, Temperament, Quality Of Life, And Bmi In Young Adults, Renata Vaysman

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

This study examined the relationship between executive function (EF) abilities, quality of life (QoL),temperamental qualities (EC: effortful control and NA: negative affect), and Body Mass Index (BMI) in a sample of young adults. Previous studies indicated that deficits in various domains of EF are associated with higher BMI and lower QoL. This study did not find statistically significant differences in EF skills based on BMI. Additionally, in this sample, there were no significant relationships between BMI and QoL. However, interesting relationships emerged between EF skills and NA, as well as EF skills and physical QoL. Furthermore, there is some evidence …
