This syllabus outlines the Fall 2023 Freshman Inquiry Writing Seminar (FIQWS) course Psychopathology in Literature. In the topic section, students learn about the history, research, ethics, and practice of psychopathology. This topic course is accompanied by a composition course in which students will apply their understanding of psychopathology to creative and research writing assignments.

This course will introduce theories, concepts, and research which enrich our understanding of implementing psychological/mental health interventions and programs in the “real world”. This course reviews the fundamentals of research and evaluation methods. Students are introduced to some aspects of evaluation theory, basic research methods used in applied research and evaluation, practical approaches to conducting and interpreting research, and to research design and assessment of intervention and implementation outcomes.

This syllabus is designed for a graduate course in the study of abnormal psychology, also known in some institutions as Psychopathology. The course is required for new students who are starting their program in clinical mental health counseling (CMHC). The syllabus provides information on required resources for optimal performance in the class. These resources include; electronic DSM-5 book through the CSI library e-resources, digital interactive learning resource (MindTap), instructional movies through Wikipedia, and links to relevant mental health organizations. The resources are mostly open education resources (OER), with a few that are not free (MindTap).
