Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of splinting scan bodies intraorally on the trueness and scan time of implant digital impressions of the edentulous arch.

Materials and Methods: Nineteen edentulous jaws undergoing fixed complete denture treatment with a minimum of 4 implants were selected for this study. The purpose of this study was 1) to evaluate the overall retention of conventional cast gold post-and-cores compared to CAD/CAM fabricated printed, milled titanium post-and-core and milled zirconia post-and-cores based on load, time of dislodgement and 2) to evaluate the mode of failure of the post-and-cores.

The advancement in dental material technology led to the improvement in the fabrication method of PMMA denture bases. Denture base adaptation can be influenced by the amount of polymerization shrinkage that occurs during the processing method of fabrication. CAD/CAM dentures milled from prepolymerized PMMA acrylic resin blocks theoretically have reduced or no polymerization shrinkage. There have been no clinical studies, to date, that have compared retention values between milled and conventionally processed denture bases. PURPOSE: An in vitro investigation analyzing the sagittal and coronal orientation of the occlusal plane using five different facebow transfer systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A phantom head containing a maxillary typodont (the control) was oriented so that Frankfort Horizontal Plane (FHP) corresponds with the horizon. Purpose: To investigate gypsum compatibility and dimensional stability of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials with three mixing techniques. A comparison between vacuum-mixed, mechanically-mixed and manually-mixed techniques was evaluated for each impression material. Materials and Methods: Three irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials Kromopan 100® (Lascod™), Identic® (Dux dental™), and Jeltrate Plus® (Dentsply™) were tested gypsum compatibility in accordance with ANSI/ADA Specification No. 18 for alginate impression materials. The test for linear dimensional stability was tested in accordance with ANSI/ADA Specification No. 19 for elastomeric impression materials. A One-way ANOVA test was used to analyze dimensional stability at a significance level of (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The vacuum mixing technique facilitates the mixing of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials and improves the compatibility with gypsum material and reproduces a more dimensionally accurate cast than the other mixing techniques.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the compatibility of dental gypsum with three recently introduced irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) alternatives. The test materials were Alginot® (Kerr™), Position Penta Quick® (3M ESPE™) and Silgimix® (Sultan Dental™). The irreversible hydrocolloid impression material, Jeltrate Plus antimicrobial® (Dentsply Caulk™) served as the control. Materials and Methods: Testing of materials was conducted in accordance with ANSI/ADA Specification No. 18 for Alginate Impression Materials. Statistical Analysis: The 3-Way ANOVA test was used to analyze measurements between different time points at a significance level of (p < 0.05) Outcome: It was found that there was greater compatibility between gypsum and the alternative materials over time than the traditional irreversible hydrocolloid material that was tested. A statistically significant amount of surface change/incompatibility was found over time with the combination of the dental gypsum products and the control impression material (Jeltrate Plus antimicrobial®).

This case series evaluated the facial gingival stability following immediate tooth replacement in conjunction with subepithelial connective tissue graft in the esthetic zone. Implant success rate and peri-implant tissue response were also reported.

Ten patients (6 males, 4 females), with a mean age of 52.1 (range = 22.7 to 67.1) years, underwent immediate implant placement and provisionalization with SCTG and were evaluated clinically and radiographically at pre-surgery (T0), immediately after immediate tooth replacement and SCTG (T1), 3-months (T2), 6-months (T3), and 12-months (T4) after surgery. In this one-year prospective study, eight completely edentulous patients were selected from the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD) patient population to participate. There were five male and three female patients, between the ages of 58 and 82 (mean age of 69.1 years). All participants received new maxillary and mandibular complete dentures prior to implant placement. Immediate implant placement into fresh extraction sites has become a relatively routine clinical procedure with a favorable prognosis. However, immediate placement into extraction sockets with lesions has not been extensively documented in humans. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to retrospectively determine the survival rate of implants placed into extraction sockets with visible periapical lesions.

This study compared the curves for the mandibular movement obtained from computerized axiography (Cadiax) and NewTom 3G cone beam volumetric tomography.

Fifteen subjects (n=15) from the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry obtained a Cadiax mandibular jaw tracing and a NewTom 3G scan of their condyles and surrounding structures while in centric relation (CR). In addition, three condylar measurements obtained from the Cadiax and the NewTom 3G were compared: sagittal eminential angle (SEA), progressive mandibular lateral translation (PMLT), and early mandibular lateral translation (EMLT).

This study compared the effectiveness of an anterior repositioning device, the Silent Nite®, to two new treatments in their ability to stop/reduce snoring. Comfort and side effects of each treatment were also evaluated.

Twenty-three subjects, in good medical condition along with their spouse/partner participated in the five-week study. A disposable sleep apnea screener, SleepStrip,™ was used to select only non-sleep apnea patients. The purpose of this study was to quantitatively evaluate; 1) mandibular posterior mono-cortical block onlay bone graft success rates 2) the amount of grafted bone retained after initial resorption in radiographic projections. Seven consecutive patients with 14 mandibular posterior implant sites requiring bone augmentation for implants of a standard 3.8mm x 10mm dimension were sought. Mono-cortical block bone grafts from the ipsilateral ascending ramus were placed then observed with two standardized CT scans, dividing them into two groups: Group A had the first CT at 4 weeks after graft placement and a second taken before Prosthodontic reconstruction, 36.7 weeks later. …

Dentists have long been challenged with finding an esthetic yet durable treatment option to restore badly carious anterior teeth. Veneered stainless steel crowns have become one of these options, but these restorations often return with the veneer fractured. To help restore esthetics, the crown may either be replaced or the veneer must be repaired. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of three bonding agents (PQ1, C&B Metabond, and Panavia) and one restorative material (Filtek Z250, 3M) in the repair of these fractured stainless steel crown veneers.
