Journal of Perioperative Nursing
Evidence-based guidelines for the management of surgical smoke and bioaerosols for perioperative nurses are necessary to improve the quality of care for patients and to ensure a safe environment in operating rooms. A survey of 377 operating room (OR) nurses throughout Thailand was used to assess the incidence of health problems related to surgical smoke exposure, as well as the current practices for these substances. A high percentage of OR nurses reported little or no use of smoke evacuation tools such as central smoke evacuation systems (100 per cent), portable smoke evacuation units (82 per cent), wall suction with inline …

Management Of Chronic Kidney Disease By Advanced Practice Nurses, Anthony C. Amagwu
Management Of Chronic Kidney Disease By Advanced Practice Nurses, Anthony C. Amagwu
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Despite best available care, uncontrolled chronic kidney disease (CKD) - a complex disease that impacts millions in the United States, will eventually progress to end stage renal disease which is associated with high morbidity and mortality. New evidence suggests management of earlier stages of CKD is effective in delaying disease progression. This project evaluated the impact of a CKD class, led by a nephrology nurse practitioner, on preventing disease progression in advanced CKD patients with diabetes and hypertension. The purpose of the class was to validate the need for the advanced practice nurse (APN) in the care continuum of CKD. …

The retention and recruitment of qualified staff becomes an urgent priority to ensure safe and prudent patient care. The purpose of the qualitative research study was to better understand the beliefs, attitudes, perceptions, and reasons for emergency department registered nurses (ED RN) satisfaction and engagement in the workplace focusing on Herzberg's, Vroom's, Yetton's, Maslow's, Benner's, and Kahn's motivation and engagement theoretical frameworks. Evaluating Outcomes Of Education On Waste Management In The Hospital Setting, Taryn N. Schlather

With advancements in healthcare, we continue to find new needs that must be addressed. Hospitals generate a substantial amount of medical waste, and proper disposal is important for patient and staff safety, environmental protection, and cost efficiency. A series of studies show there is a need for further education on hospital waste management policies. This thesis aims to evaluate education interventions to improve knowledge and healthcare waste disposal practices. This literature review was conducted using multiple databases, including MedLINE, CINAHL, GreenFILE, Google Scholar, EBSCOhost, and NCBI, to find qualifying research articles in the English language from 2005-2018. Emotional Self-Management Experiences Of Practical Nursing Students, Cindy Ko
Emotional Self-Management Experiences Of Practical Nursing Students, Cindy Ko
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In Ontario, Canada, practical nurses (PN) are educated through a 2-year diploma program. A review of PN program curricula in Ontario suggested that emotional intelligence (EI) and the core concept of emotional self-management are not specified in curriculum outcomes or courses. The study explored PN students' lived experiences with emotional self-management in the clinical settings where they are exposed to stress related situations using van Manen's orientation to hermeneutic phenomenology. The original four-branch ability model of EI by Mayer and Salovey was used as the theoretical framework to guide the explorative and interpretative processes of the study. Face-to-face interviews were …
