Kinematic Characteristics Of Novices’ Sprint Techniques At Maximum Velocity Phase, Saburo Nishimura, Yoshinori Kinomura

Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology

Topics in Exercise Science and Kinesiology Volume 5: Issue 1, Article 2, 2024. Sprint performance is a crucial aspect of achieving high performance across a range of sports. However, previous studies analyzing the sprint technique of novices have yielded disparate findings regarding effective sprint techniques. For instance, Saito and Ito (1995) found no significant difference in the maximum thigh angle of the free leg between boys aged 7 to 12 and sprinters. Conversely, Katoh et al. (2001) reported that elementary school sprinters indicated a larger maximum thigh angle of the free leg than novice elementary children. Inconsistency like this makes …

Analyzing Aberrant Dna Methylation In Colorectal Cancer Uncovered Intangible Heterogeneity Of Gene Effects In The Survival Time Of Patients, Saeedeh Hajebi Khaniki, Farhad Shokoohi, Habibollah Esmaily, Mohammad Amin Kerachian

Mathematical Sciences Faculty Research

Colorectal cancer (CRC) involves epigenetic alterations. Irregular gene-methylation alteration causes and advances CRC tumor growth. Detecting differentially methylated genes (DMGs) in CRC and patient survival time paves the way to early cancer detection and prognosis. However, CRC data including survival times are heterogeneous. Almost all studies tend to ignore the heterogeneity of DMG effects on survival. To this end, we utilized a sparse estimation method in the finite mixture of accelerated failure time (AFT) regression models to capture such heterogeneity. We analyzed a dataset of CRC and normal colon tissues and identified 3406 DMGs. Analysis of overlapped DMGs with several …

In Psychology one of the first theories we learn is Maslow's Need Triangle. Within this theory we learn that love and belonging is one the basic human needs an individual needs to develop. This continues to be relevant later in age. The lack of compassionate love can result in increase feelings of loneliness and subsequent deterioration of mental health therefore making individuals, specifically older adults, more vulnerable to suicidal behavior. Loneliness is a public health epidemic affecting more the 40% of older adults. Theoretical and empirical evidence implies that human beings can cope with adversity when they possess a repertoire …

Undergraduate Research Symposium Posters

Milk was historically thought to be generally sterile. However, use of culture-dependent and culture-independent methods has provided strong evidence that milk has a microbiome (Figure 1). Culture-independent methods (e.g., high-throughput sequencing) have demonstrated the diversity of microbes in milk but provide relative abundance data. Culture-dependent methods have indicated microbial communities in milk are of low abundance, but it is challenging to measure absolute quantities accurately. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) has been used to quantify bacterial taxa in milk, However, concentrations often fall below the detection limit (Figure 2 & 3). Digital droplet PCR (ddPCR) allows detection of low-abundant …
