Left ventricular pseudoaneurysm is a rare but life-threatening disorder that is frequently reported secondary to myocardial infarction or cardiac surgery. In this article, we chronicle the case of a patient with no prior risk factors who presented with a 2-week history of nonexertional atypical left chest pain. Apical 2-chamber transthoracic echocardiography revealed an unexpected outpouching of basal inferoseptal wall of the left ventricle, which had a narrow neck and relatively wide apex. The patient was diagnosed with left ventricular pseudoaneurysm and medical therapy was initiated. Trauma-provoked tinnitus challenges patients and clinicians. Effects of trauma may exacerbate tinnitus, and patients with both tinnitus and posttraumatic stress disorder rate distress levels as higher than patients who experience only one or the other. This presentation will highlight links between tinnitus and trauma histories relevant to clinical audiologists.

Interactions between neural mechanisms associated with tinnitus, posttraumatic stress-disorder (PTSD), and traumatic memory will be reviewed with particular attention to the way and degree to which such interactions affect tinnitus and disorders of sound tolerance. Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is an increasingly recognized nonatherosclerotic cause of acute coronary syndrome. Reports regarding the prognosis and natural history of this disease are limited. In addition to the diagnostic difficulty, this condition poses a significant therapeutic challenge due to the lack of specific management guidelines. We present here a case series of 9 patients with spontaneous coronary artery dissection. Additionally, this article reviews the incidence, clinical characteristics, risk factors, diagnostic modalities, therapeutic approaches, and patterns of recurrence in patients with spontaneous coronary artery dissection.

The rate of overdose-related to the use of licit and illicit opioids has drastically increased over the last decade in the U.S. The epicenter being West Virginia the highest rates of overdoses accounting for 41.5 deaths for 100,000 people among the 33,091 deaths in 2015. The number of people injecting drugs has increased from 36% in 2005 to 54% in 2015. The total U.S cost of prescription opioid abuse in 2011 has been estimated at $25 billion, and criminal-justice-system costs to $5.1 billion. Evidence-based guidelines for the management of surgical smoke and bioaerosols for perioperative nurses are necessary to improve the quality of care for patients and to ensure a safe environment in operating rooms. A survey of 377 operating room (OR) nurses throughout Thailand was used to assess the incidence of health problems related to surgical smoke exposure, as well as the current practices for these substances. In Ontario, Canada, practical nurses (PN) are educated through a 2-year diploma program. A review of PN program curricula in Ontario suggested that emotional intelligence (EI) and the core concept of emotional self-management are not specified in curriculum outcomes or courses. The study explored PN students' lived experiences with emotional self-management in the clinical settings where they are exposed to stress related situations using van Manen's orientation to hermeneutic phenomenology. Persistent air leak (PAL) is a common and challenging condition associated with increased morbidity and mortality, intensive care unit admission, and prolonged hospital stay. Multiple medical and surgical approaches have been developed to manage PAL. Depending on the etiology of PAL, surgical management may be effective and usually performed using video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). Medical management is less invasive and consists of pleural or bronchoscopic methods. Many patients are unaware of this and seek medical attention prematurely, incurring significant healthcare costs and resulting in antibiotic misuse. On the other hand, a prolonged infection or the presence of atypical symptoms does warrant medical attention and can potentially lead to untoward consequences if inadequately treated. Osteoid osteoma is a benign bone-forming tumor with hallmark of tumor cells directly forming mature bone. Osteoid osteoma accounts for around 5% of all bone tumors and 11% of benign bone tumors with a male predilection. It occurs predominantly in long bones of the appendicular skeleton. According to Musculoskeletal Tumor Society staging system for benign tumors, osteoid osteoma is a stage-2 lesion. It is classified based on location as cortical, cancellous, or subperiosteal. Takayasu arteritis (TAK) is a challenging chronic, granulomatous, large-vessel systemic vasculitis, mostly due to difficulties in early diagnosis and assessing actual disease activity. Since there are no specific diagnostic laboratory tests, biomarkers, or autoantibodies, many patients experience considerable delay in diagnosis. Remembering the possibility of TAK together with the use of acute phase responses and appropriate imaging studies may be helpful for early diagnosis.
