Vitrectomy With Internal Limiting Membrane Peeling In The Management Of Primary Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment, Ahmed Abd El Fattah Abd El Hamid El Far, Sayed Abbas Sayed Mahfuz, Hasan Mohamed Hegazy, Abd El-Ghany Ibrahim Abd El-Ghany

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Aim of the work: To assess the role of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling with vitrectomy for primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment and detection of associated macular changes

Method: 50 patients with a primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment that match the inclusion criteria were studied. Patients were subgrouped into two groups; the first group underwent ppv without ILM peeling and the second group underwent ILM peeling with vitrectomy. The main outcomes recorded were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and the occurrence of ERM on SD-OCT.

Results: There were 25 eyes in each group. The patients in the second group did not develop ERM …

Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin-C versus modified adjustable sutures trabeculectomy with Mitomycin-C in primary open angle glaucoma: Comparative study

Abstract

Background: Trabeculectomy is the most common glaucoma surgery worldwide. Overflow may lead to serious complications, fine control of IOP by adjustable sutures technique decreased complications and increased success rates.

Methods: A comparative, prospective, interventional clinical study in which 50 eyes of 50 patients with primary open angle glaucoma were included, and randomly assigned to Trabeculectomy with Mitomycin-C and modified adjustable sutures trabeculectomy with Mitomycin-C. It was conducted at Al-Hussein University Hospital, Cairo, between January 2017 and December 2021. Patients were followed up …

Comparison Of Ab Externo 360-Degree Suture Trabeculotomy And Deep Sclerectomy In Management Of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma In Adults, Mohamed Yousri El-Sayed, Hosny Hassan Mohammad, Mahmoud Hamed Abd-Rabbuh Jan 2023

Comparison Of Ab Externo 360-Degree Suture Trabeculotomy And Deep Sclerectomy In Management Of Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma In Adults, Mohamed Yousri El-Sayed, Hosny Hassan Mohammad, Mahmoud Hamed Abd-Rabbuh

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of ab externo 360-degree suture trabeculectomy (ST) and deep sclerectomy (DS) in adults with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) in lowering intraocular pressure (IOP), lowering the number of antiglaucoma medicines needed, and reducing surgery and postsurgical problems. Patients and Methods: This research involved 20 eyes out of 20 cases with POAG classified into two equal groups according to surgical treatment modality. Group (1) performed an ab externo 360-degree suture trabeculotomy, and group (2) performed a deep sclerotomy. Visual acuities, gonioscopy, fundus examination, and fundus optical coherence tomography (OCT) were done. Results: Complete success was observed in …

Effect Of Phacoemulsification On Corneal Endothelium In Type 2 Diabetic Patients Versus Normal Patients Phacoemulsification On Corneal Endothelium, Ali Ahmad Ali Khalifa, Ehab Abdel Salam Azab El Sheikh, Naef El Sayed Abdel Aziz Ali Jan 2023

Effect Of Phacoemulsification On Corneal Endothelium In Type 2 Diabetic Patients Versus Normal Patients Phacoemulsification On Corneal Endothelium, Ali Ahmad Ali Khalifa, Ehab Abdel Salam Azab El Sheikh, Naef El Sayed Abdel Aziz Ali

examination was performed for determination of endothelial cell density.

Results: One month after surgery, a comparison between the two study groups revealed statistically insignificant differences in either group's central corneal thickness (CCT), coefficient of variation (CV%), or corneal endothelial cell density (ECD). However, their hexagonality (Hex) showed significant difference (p = 0.021) in comparison between group (1 & 2). There is a significant decrease in ECD in both groups after one month of phaco surgery with highly significant decrease in diabetic than non-diabetic groups (p

Conclusion: From this study, phacoemulsification decreases the corneal endothelial cell count and type 2 DM …

Effect Of Single And Paired Clear Corneal Incisions On Corneal Astigmatism In Phacoemulsification Surgery, Mohamed A. Zahra, Ahmed M. Sakr, Abdallah E. Shelil Jan 2023

Effect Of Single And Paired Clear Corneal Incisions On Corneal Astigmatism In Phacoemulsification Surgery, Mohamed A. Zahra, Ahmed M. Sakr, Abdallah E. Shelil

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Astigmatism is a common visual disorder caused by an irregular curvature of the cornea. This can change the way light passes to the retina, causing blurry distorted vision. Unsatisfactory visual acuity following otherwise successful cataract surgery is commonly attributable to the development of postoperative astigmatism. Aim and objectives: To determine the effect of single and paired on-axis clear corneal incisions on preexisting corneal astigmatism during phacoemulsification. Subjects and methods: This was a descriptive interventional study conducted in Al-Hussien University hospital and Cairo Fatemic hospital (Cairo, Egypt) on 40 eyes with senile cataract which were divided into two …

Comparison Of Macular Thickness Changes After Neodymium: Yttrium–Aluminum–Garnet Laser Capsulotomy In Diabetic And Non-Diabetic Patients, Sayed Abbas Sayed, Hatem Mahmoud Samy Abedelkawy, Mostafa Saad Sayed Kamel Jan 2023

Comparison Of Macular Thickness Changes After Neodymium: Yttrium–Aluminum–Garnet Laser Capsulotomy In Diabetic And Non-Diabetic Patients, Sayed Abbas Sayed, Hatem Mahmoud Samy Abedelkawy, Mostafa Saad Sayed Kamel

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Commonly delayed complications after cataract surgery include posterior capsule opacification (PCO) following cataract removal. The PCO is typically treated with Neodymium: Yttrium–Aluminum-Capsulotomy using a Garnet Nd:YAG Laser. It is an effective, non-invasive simple, fast, and relatively safe outpatient surgery for managing intact posterior capsule opacification following surgery. Objectives: to compare thickness variations in the central macula (CMT) after ND: YAG laser posterior capsulotomy in diabetic with non-diabetic patients. Patients and methods: A prospective interventional comparative research was perfomed in ophthalmology department of Al-Azhar university hospitals during the period from September 2021 to July 2022. The investigation included 40 posterior …

Ocular Manifestations Associated With Alopecia Areata, Eslam Gamal Ahmed Foad, Mahmoud Abdelhaleem Rabea, Nehad Mohammed Yusef, Mohamed Abd Elmawgoud Amer

Al-Azhar International Medical Journal

Background: Refractive errors and other ocular diseases are main causes of stress which may affect alopecia areata, so diagnosis and treatment of RE and ocular diseases in patients with alopecia areata is important for prognosis of alopecia areata.

Objective: To detect the presence of refractive errors and other ocular changes in patients with alopecia areata and effect of correction of refractive error and treatment of ocular diseases if found on prognosis of alopecia areata.

Patients and Methods: Sixty patients suffering from alopecia areata were included. Patients had full ophthalmic examination including RE, anterior segment, posterior segment, and examination for dry …
