This thesis seeks to establish and define the individual, the team as an entity, and qualify various metrics to predict team performance. When several individuals come together, they form a team that is often capable of designing and developing concepts beyond the individual on their own by methods of task dispersion, goal orientation, communication, and more. With these teams comes growth and increased performance leading to more efficient processes and better metrics by which performance may be measured. To achieve this, 34 engineering students in the AerosPACE senior design program, which lasted two semesters, were asked to complete surveys in …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports

The industry-level engineering workforce for a project in modern times requires a clear plan and management process to execute the goals of the consumer and the producer. The engineers of tomorrow need the ability to be competitive and successful upon entry into the industry, where there have already been established management tactics for the execution of the company's goals. The mentality within the industry is adaptable to senior collegiate-level competition-based capstone projects. Therefore the West Virginia University EcoCAR Mobility Challenge team has adapted, altered, or adjusted industry-level practices in order to have an overall functioning and effective team that follows …

Asme Student Design Competition, Marcus Todd

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

For the completion of my capstone project with the Western Kentucky University Honors College, the following document details my experience with the American Society of Mechanical Engineer (ASME) Student Design Competition. This project was completed in a two semester sequence through working with a team of four. One semester focusing primarily on the design and the other on fabrication and evaluation. The 2019 ASME competition was the Pick and Place Race. In this event, 46 teams were challenged to design and construct a device having the ability to pick up balls of varying size. Both the design and assembly process …
