The Future Of Web Citation Practices, Robin Camille Davis
The Future Of Web Citation Practices, Robin Camille Davis
Publications and Research
Citing webpages has been a common practice in scholarly publications for nearly two decades as the Web evolved into a major information source. But over the years, more and more bibliographies have suffered from “reference rot”: cited URLs are broken links or point to a page that no longer contains the content the author originally cited. In this column, I look at several studies showing how reference rot has affected different academic disciplines. I also examine citation styles’ approach to citing web sources. I then turn to emerging web citation practices: Perma, a “freemium” web archiving service specifically for citation; …

Towards Evidence-Informed Agriculture Policy Making: Investigating The Knowledge Translation Practices Of Researchers In The National Agriculture Research Institutes In Nigeria, Isioma N. Elueze
Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository
This study investigated the knowledge translation practices of researchers in the National Agriculture Research Institutes of Nigeria and the utilization of research knowledge by policy actors in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Nigeria. Data for the study was obtained from agriculture researchers and the policy actors through questionnaires and interviews. In addition, bibliometric and content analysis were carried out on documents from the research institutes and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to gauge the transfer and use of knowledge by the researchers and policy actors respectively. Out of about six hundred questionnaires that …

The Anchor, Volume 130.08: October 26, 2016, Hope College
The Anchor: 2016
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Balancing Bananas: Collection Assessment Of Patron‐Driven Acquisitions, Gabrielle Wiersma, Rhonda Glazier, Denise Pan, Stephanie Spratt
Charleston Library Conference
The libraries in the University of Colorado (CU) System have been using patron‐driven acquisitions (PDA) to build a shared collection of e‐books for many years. This paper presents our experiences as both early adopters of PDA and libraries with longstanding PDA e‐book programs and describes an analysis of how PDA has impacted collections at each of the libraries in the CU System.

Agents Of Diversity And Social Justice: Librarians And Scholarly Communication, Charlotte Roh, Harrison Inefuku
Agents Of Diversity And Social Justice: Librarians And Scholarly Communication, Charlotte Roh, Harrison Inefuku
Gleeson Library Faculty and Staff Research and Scholarship
This chapter considers diversity broadly to mean a variety of perspectives, whether grounded in race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, socioeconomic status, or disciplinary study. It begins with a description of the current environment of scholarly communication, looking at the demographics and state of affairs in academia, publishing, and librarianship, including how biases present in all three fields affect scholarly communication. It then moves to a consideration of how librarians and library publishing programs can transform scholarly communication. By adopting a social justice perspective--actively working against ignorance and indifference to reduce systematic biases and injustice in academia, publishing, and librarianship- academic …

Hackathons can be ideal opportunities for libraries and librarians to promote new services and tools. In these social events, attendees form teams and work on a project together within a given time limit. This article explains hackathons, provides a brief history, and details how libraries and librarians can get involved. Similar event structures, like hack days and edit-a-thons, are also considered.
