The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). As of Fall 2019 The Anchor has moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Collaborative Co-Design: The Cal Poly Digital Teaching Library User Centric Approach, Mary M. Somerville, Navjit Brar
Library Scholarship
Undergraduate students currently enrolled in US universities represent the first generations to grow up with the digital technologies developed and disseminated in the last decades of the 20th century. Having spent their entire lives using computers, videogames, digital music players, video cams, cell phones, email, instant messaging, and all the other tools and toys of contemporary technology, they think differently (Prensky, December 2001). As a consequence, today’s students are not the people that the US educational system was designed to teach (Prensky, October 2001). It is also the case that traditional design approaches are insufficient for developing enabling information management …

Buzz about instant messaging (IM) customer service is becoming louder, both inside and outside the library field. In general, librarian opinions of IM are mixed and at times even combative. A survey was distributed to gather librarians' opinions of the usefulness of IM as compared to its feature-rich yet difficulty-prone sibling, commercial chat. Through detailed statistical analysis, this article provides an overview of trends in and opinions of IM reference, and offers analysis of its present and future in libraries.

Stuart Chases's Use Of Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island, (1874), Richard Vangermeersch
Special Collections (Miscellaneous)
There are two very specific reasons why this piece was researched and written. The first is a continuation of my work done on Stuart Chase (various publications). I am still hopeful my efforts will inspire an historian to do a 1000 page biography on Stuart Chase. The second is further example why my idea of using Verne’s book as the basis for a one-day management seminar is worth trying.

Rare Books & Special Collections Publications
The items listed in this catalogue were almost all taken from the G. Ross Roy Collection of the University of South Carolina's Special Libraries Division. While particular attention was paid to works entirely by MacDiarmid in the selection of works to be displayed, the Roy Collection is rich also in works edited by MacDiarmid, or to which he wrote introductions or contributed essays or poems. It contains virtually the whole of the MacDiarmid canon, with significant variant issues of major works. and two important series of presentation inscriptions of books presented by MacDiarmid to his wife, Valda Trevlyn, and to …
Perceptions Of Library Value, Carol Tenopir
Perceptions Of Library Value, Carol Tenopir
School of Information Sciences -- Faculty Publications and Other Works
Some recent studies show that the perception held by the general public about electronic library collections and digital services may differ from that held by faculty and university students. The predominant perception of libraries is as a place to borrow printed books, even as libraries' electronic budgets begin to outpace print budgets.

Untangling The Jungle Of E-Journal Access Issues Using Crm Software, Carol Ann Borchert
Academic Resources Faculty and Staff Publications
Librarians have been struggling for years with the variety of issues arising while troubleshooting access to electronic journals. This article outlines the advantages and disadvantages of using a Customer Relations Management (CRM) software, originally designed for a call center, to communicate with patrons and track access issues. Utilizing the email software used by the Reference Department at the University of South Florida, we assign incidents, correspond with patrons and staff, write internal notes, maintain transactions, and pull statistics. Hopefully, library vendors will develop software oriented to the needs of libraries to assist in managing access problems for e-journals.
