A Qualitative Coded Analysis Of Undergraduate And Graduate Student Library Instruction Feedback, Tina Budzise-Weaver, Susan P. Goodwin, Michael L. Maciel

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Student Feedback has become increasingly important as libraries tailor their services to the customer. A team from Texas A&M University Libraries analyzed student feedback forms to determine impressions from library information literacy classes. This paper analyzes student feedback forms through both traditional assessment and a coded-analysis using ATLAS.ti. These analyses determined student participation by number of attendees, student classification, and departmental majors. Overall themes emerged from students’ comments that provided insight into the information literacy sessions. The study found that reaching undergraduate students in their first–year and seeing graduate students more than once, makes a greater impact on their …

Leveraging Library Ecology: Growing Beyond Boundaries To Cultivate A Sustainable Knowledge Community Through Team-Based Librarianship, Ellen R. Urton, Meagan J. Duever, Casey D. Hoeve, Jenny K. Oleen, David Vail

UNL Libraries: Faculty Publications

Higher education increasingly challenges libraries to thrive while adapting to fiscal realities, imploring institutions to accomplish more with less, and leverage assets creatively. When competing demands vie for attention, interdisciplinary concepts such as sustainability may be neglected, or simply absent from a library’s mission. A team-based community of librarians can galvanize existing assets wherever they reside within an organization. This approach requires that librarians transcend traditional boundaries to reveal untapped or underutilized expertise. Interdepartmental teams within a library can address topics difficult to assign to one designated specialist, and access the education, interests, or networks possessed by multiple individuals across …

Looks Matter: The Impact Of Visual And Inclusive Design On Usability, Accessibility, And Online Learning, Sigrid Anderson Cordell, Melissa Gomis Jan 2015

Looks Matter: The Impact Of Visual And Inclusive Design On Usability, Accessibility, And Online Learning, Sigrid Anderson Cordell, Melissa Gomis

UNL Libraries: Faculty Publications

The recent expansion of digital scholarship has largely failed to take into account issues of accessibility and inclusive design. Likewise, the connection between accessibility and visual design is often overlooked in creating online learning tools. This gap is most often caused by an emphasis on delivering content rather than designing sites to be both visually appealing and effective in teaching concepts to students of all abilities and learning styles. In this chapter, we will argue that an emphasis on visual design in the creation of online learning objects enhances both accessibility and pedagogy.
