Law students have reported common barriers during their academic journeys. They report that demands on their time are at an all-time high, that they believe that there’s one “right way” to be a law student and lawyer, or that they are constantly comparing themselves to others. Research suggests, however, that students can shape the way they experience difficult moments by looking at these challenges in positive ways and adopting a perspective that helps them to thrive. Working with psychology researcher Dr. Omid Fotuhi, and a group of law students, we created an intersession course—Thriving in the Law: Tools for Academic, …

The Final Twelve, Doug Surtees
The Final Twelve, Doug Surtees
Dalhousie Law Journal
When the COVID-19 pandemic moved law classes online, the University of Saskatchewan College of Law admitted an additional twelve students. These students had the lowest index scores in their class. This paper reviews their first year academic performance, compares it to other students admitted in the same year, and concludes that at least at the margin, applicants’ index score is not an accurate predictor of academic success. The author recommends that admissions committees use additional criteria, at least for applicants at the margin.

A Bibliography Of Faculty Scholarship, Kathryn J. Dufour Law Library
Scholarly Articles
The purpose of this bibliography is to record in one place the substantial body of scholarship produced by the current faculty at the Catholic University, Columbus School of Law. From its humble beginnings under the tutelage of founding Dean William Callyhan Robinson, through its adolescent period when, like so many other American law schools, it was trying to define its pedagogical niche, to its eventual merger with the Columbus University Law School in 1954, the law school at Catholic University has always retained a scholarly and remarkably productive faculty. The sheer quantity of writing, the breadth of research and the …

This fall, I will teach my third semester of Advanced Legal Research at Cardozo School of Law. With the support of the library, I have learned a great deal about how to teach effectively over the past year. They gave me the opportunity to conduct a mock ALR class this summer, which helped me tremendously. In this post, I will describe my journey as a new adjunct professor.
