The decline of British influence in world affairs is one of the more pronounced political phenomena of modern times. Over the past century key territories subject to British rule have been slipping loose from their imperial moorings at an ever more rapid rate. Those remaining subject to British authority grow progressively more belligerent.
In his search for an understanding or this eclipse or British sovereignty, the contemporary historian finds himself groping through a network of complexly interrelated social, political, economic, and psychological processes. Howard Egan, one of the outstanding members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the period shortly after its organization, demonstrated his faithfulness to the Church by supporting the leaders, through all their difficulties, from the day of his conversion until the end of his life. While living in Nauvoo he lent his assistance to the leaders by serving as a city policeman, as Captain of the Camp Creek detachment of the Nauvoo Legion on reconnaissance duty during the mob hostilities of 1845, and as a missionary for the Church in the Eastern States. The Octofoil is the offical publication of the Ninth Infantry Division Association, Inc., an organization formed by the officers and men of the 9th Infantry Division in order to perpetuate the memory of fallen comrades, preserve the esprit de corps of the Division, promote peace and serve as an information bureau about the 9th Infantry Division. The Association is made up of 9th Infantry veterans from WWII and Vietnam, spouses, widows and lineal descendants.
