Domestic Violence Blame Attributions Of Police Officers And College Students, Kyle Gamache

This student explores domestic violence blame attributions of police officers and college students. A total of 387 college students from two institutions and 92 police officers were given the Domestic Violence Blame Attribution Scale (Petretic-Jackson et al., 1994). The results suggest that police officers and college students had significantly different ratings on the DVBS subscale scores, specifically that police officers had lower ratings of societal and perpetrator blame than college students. Continued exploration of the data showed that there were further differences within the samples. Phoebe Thaler `19 spent her summer running around D.C–– from her office to protests, to rallies, to Capitol Hill. As an intern at National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE), no two days were the same. "The Supreme Court would hand out a decision or something would be happening on The Hill or the president would do something,” Thaler says, “and they’d just be like, ‘interns, get in an Uber––we’ll pay for it."

Daryn Javer’s eyes are glued to the comparison microscope as she focuses closer onto the 9-mm Luger cartridge case. She adds more lighting and turns her attention to the nearby monitor, adjusting a split-screen image of her subjects: a discharged cartridge case and a test-fired cartridge case ejected from a known firearm, until she lines up drag marks and breech face marks. With the markings aligned, she merges the pair of circular cartridge cases until they overlay one another on the screen, and she affirms they were fired from the same gun.
