A Phenomenological Study On The Followership And Follower Dissent Experience Of Black/African American Female Healthcare Leaders, Shella M. Miller

PhD in Organizational Leadership

Although followership has traditionally been viewed as self-explanatory and innate, it is critical to leadership success and deserves equal scrutiny. Despite its recognized importance to leadership, followership theory remains underdeveloped and understudied, particularly in relation to intersectional factors, such as race and gender and the followership experience of individuals. This gap is particularly salient in today's diverse healthcare settings, where diverse representation and effective leadership and followership are critical for addressing pressing healthcare challenges, including health disparities. Black/African American women are disproportionately represented in entry-level roles compared to leadership positions within healthcare and often face unique challenges related to their …

Music Therapy In The Pacu: An Evidence Based Practice Project On Multimodal Postoperative Pain Interventions, Rachael Addison Spruell, Pamela D. Hardesty

Graduate Publications and Other Selected Works - Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

BACKGROUND: Postoperative patients come to the PACU where pain and anxiety are priorities in care. Creating healing environments in PACU is often difficult due to open bays and constant movement and patient transports from operating rooms. Medication is often offered to relieve patients’ unrest in the anxiety-provoking environment, which leads to increased medication needs and prolonged admissions. Studies demonstrate how music therapy with current care practices effectively decrease pain, anxiety, and medication requirements in the PACU.

LOCAL PROBLEM: The setting was the main PACU of a Level I trauma hospital in Tennessee. The PACU nurse manager identified increased …

Considerations Of Medicare Telehealth Services With Older Adults, Sonah Kho, Amanda Dediego

Adultspan Journal

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic set in motion a rapid expansion of mental health services offered via telehealth. With this rapid expansion came the need to examine how policy and practice should be shaped in a future where telehealth is considered common in counseling practice. For counselors to understand how to support older adult clients in using telehealth services, they must understand telehealth policy. Following the eligibility of licensed counselors to participate in Medicare, counselors need to stay abreast of regulatory changes regarding restrictions and regulations on use of telehealth for mental and behavioral health services, including video and …

Economic Impacts Of Establishing A Neutron Source Facility In Windsor, Abdur Rahman Sep 2024

Economic Impacts Of Establishing A Neutron Source Facility In Windsor, Abdur Rahman

Major Papers

Cancer poses a significant health challenge in Canada, with two in five individuals likely to develop the disease. This paper explores the economic impacts of establishing a prototype compact accelerator-based neutron source (PC-CANS) facility in Windsor that will produce medical isotopes locally in Windsor, Ontario, rather than relying on centralized production and transportation from London, Ontario. Fluorine-18 medical isotopes, crucial for positron emission tomography (PET) scans, experience significant decay losses during transportation due to their short half-life of 109.8 minutes, increasing costs and restricting availability. Using a differential analysis approach, the study quantifies economic benefits, focusing on three main impacts: …

Decreasing Utilization Of Indwelling Urinary Catheters, Stacie Lomibao Fujimoto Sep 2024

Decreasing Utilization Of Indwelling Urinary Catheters, Stacie Lomibao Fujimoto

Articles, Abstracts, and Reports

Increased utilization and prolonged dwell times of indwelling urinary catheters (IUCs) are directly related to the risk of catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs)- the fifth most common type of healthcare associated infection (HAI). The National Health and Safety Network (NHSN) uses the Standardized Utilization Ratio (SUR) metric to measure and compare device utilization in acute care hospitals across the nation. The national target SUR benchmark is 1.0, and a SUR under 1.0 indicates less device usage than NHSN predicts on an inpatient unit. In 2022 a Neuro Med-Surg unit experienced an overall SUR of 1.047 with 2 CAUTIs observed. A …
