Towards The Position Control Of Conducting Polymer Trilayer Bending Actuators With Integrated Feedback Sensor, Stephen John, Gursel Alici, Christopher D. Cook Oct 2012

Towards The Position Control Of Conducting Polymer Trilayer Bending Actuators With Integrated Feedback Sensor, Stephen John, Gursel Alici, Christopher D. Cook

Gursel Alici

Conducting polymers have a wide range of reversibly controllable properties, leading to a number of potentially useful devices for robotic applications, including actuators, sensors and batteries. Conducting polymers have the advantages of low weight, low cost, flexibility, small activation potentials (

Development Of A Force Sensor Working With Mr Elastomers, Weihua Li, Kosta Kostidis, Xianzhou Zhang, Yang Zhou

Professor Weihua Li

This paper presents the development of a new force sensor with MR elastomer as a sensing element. One key element in this study was to find a suitable material with high sensing capabilities which can be used for developing a sensor. Thus different MR elastomers, with ingredients of carbonyl iron particle, graphite, silicone oil and silicone rubber, were manufactured and measured with a modified rheometer. The effects of additives on the sensing capabilities were systematically investigated and an optimal MR elastomer sample was selected for design and manufacturing of a force sensor prototype. The development sensor prototype consists of three …

This paper presents a cost-effective sensor design based on an arrangement of light dependent resistors (LDRs) to determine the particle flow velocity and the particle concentration of granular material flow. The sensor is designed for both dense phase and dilute phase flow and can be applied wherever a transparent sightglass is used in material conveying. The measurement setup and its applicability for industrial conveying processes are discussed and measurement results utilising plastic pellets are presented.
