Thermodynamics And Bioenergetics, Yaşar Demirel, Stanley I. Sandler Mar 2002

Thermodynamics And Bioenergetics, Yaşar Demirel, Stanley I. Sandler

Papers in Thermal Mechanics

Bioenergetics is concerned with the energy conservation and conversion processes in a living cell, particularly in the inner membrane of the mitochondrion. This review summarizes the role of thermodynamics in understanding the coupling between the chemical reactions and the transport of substances in bioenergetics. Thermodynamics has the advantages of identifying possible pathways, providing a measure of the efficiency of energy conversion, and of the coupling between various processes without requiring a detailed knowledge of the underlying mechanisms. In the last five decades, various new approaches in thermodynamics, non-equilibrium thermodynamics and network thermodynamics have been developed to understand the transport and …

Specific design criteria are proposed to mitigate radiated emissions from a resonant enclosure excited by a heat sink acting as a microstrip patch antenna source. In this particular application, the EMI mechanism is assumed to be due to coupling from the dominant TMz010 mode to one or more resonant modes associated with the enclosure dimensions. The enclosure is then presumed to radiate, at the enclosure resonance frequencies, through one or more apertures, slots, or seams. The EMI-reduction strategy consists of shifting the resonant frequency of the dominant-patch antenna mode by dielectrically loading the patch antenna with thermal-gasket material …

Analysis And Behavior Of A Rigid Foundation Massif Under The Effect Of Vibrations (Application Of Barakan Method), Iddir Rabah, Laradi Nadir

International Conferences on Recent Advances in Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering and Soil Dynamics

This communication proposes a count mode of a rigid foundation massif frequencies, relaxing on a homogeneous soil, semi-infinite having an elastic linear behavior. Several data programs process using the finite elements method, are proposed for the dynamic analysis. Nevertheless, these programs don’t appear the physical phenomenon yielded, they depend on data introduced by the user and are applicable only for the elastic foundation massifs. The BARKAN method is an analytic one that appears the physical behavior of the different displacements and their coupling modes, the involvement of soil by its different dynamic stiffness modules, as well as a constant verification …
