Domain Structures And Magnetic Anisotropy Of Tbfe12-Xtix Single Crystals, Y. Han, Z. Zhang, Jianli Wang, Guangheng Wu, X.F. Han, B.S. Han

Jianli Wang

The domain structures of TbFe12-xTix (x=0.85, 1.0, and 1.3) single crystals in different crystal planes have been investigated using magnetic force microscopy. The patterns with large contrast are observed in (1 1 0) and (1 0 0) planes for the samples of x=0.85, while the slight contrast is detected in (0 0 1) plane, indicating the anisotropy is easy plane. By increasing x to 1.0 and 1.3, the domain structures change dramatically in (1 1 0), (1 0 0), and (0 0 1) planes. This demonstrates that the anisotropy transforms from easy plane to easy axis, which is related to …

The evolution of nanocrystalline n-MgFe2O4 by high-energy milling a mixture of MgO and α-Fe2O3 for periods of between 0 h and 12 h has been investigated by neutron diffraction in addition to previous Mössbauer, XRD and HRTEM measurements. Complete transformation of the milled products to n-MgFe2O4 only occurs on milling to ∼8 h even though the average particle size decreases to < ∼10 nm after milling for 2 h. The applied field Mössbauer spectra of n-MgFe2O4 can be well described by two subspectra representing core and shell regions with different cation distributions and spin canting angles. The neutron pattern of nanocrystalline …

57fe Mössbauer And Magnetic Studies Of Erfe12−Xnbx, Jianli Wang, Stewart Campbell, John Cadogan, O. Tegus, A. Edge

Jianli Wang

The structural and magnetic properties of ErFe12−xNbx compounds (x = 0.6, 0.7 and 0.8) have been investigated by x-ray diffraction, ac susceptibility and dc magnetization measurements and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. Refinements of the x-ray diffraction patterns show that the Nb atoms preferentially occupy the 8i sites; this can be understood in the terms of enthalpy effects and differences in the metallic radii. The average Fe–Fe distance at the different sites is found to behave as dFe−Fe(8i)> dFe−Fe(8j)> dFe−Fe(8f). The unit cell volume increases slightly with increasing Nb content, consistent with the larger radius of Nb compared with Fe. A spin …

A Conductive Polypyrrole-Coated, Sulfur-Carbon Nanotube Composite For Use In Lithium-Sulfur Batteries, Jianli Wang, Lin Lu, Dongqi Shi, Richard Tandiono, Zhaoxiang Wang, Konstantin Konstantinov, Hua Liu

Jianli Wang

A novel ternary composite, polypyrrole (PPy)-coated sulphur-carbon nanotube (S-CNT), is synthesised by using an in situ, one-pot method. Firstly, elemental sulfur is loaded into the CNT network by a solution-based processing technique. Then conducting PPy is coated on the surface of the S-CNT composite to form the S-CNT-PPy ternary composite by carrying out polymerization of the pyrrole monomer in situ. The ternary composite is tested as a cathode for lithium-sulfur batteries. The results show that PPy coating improves significantly the performance of the binary composites (S-CNT and S-PPy). The conducting PPy is believed to serve multiple functions in the composite: …

Sugar As An Optimal Carbon Source For The Enhanced Performance Of Mgb2 Superconductors At High Magnetic Fields, Olga Shcherbakova, Alexey Pan, Jianli Wang, Andrey Shcherbakov, S. Dou, David Wexler, E Babic, M Jercinovic, O Husnjak

Jianli Wang

In this paper we report the results of an extended study of the effect of sugar doping on the structural and electromagnetic properties of MgB2 superconductors. High values of the upper critical field (Bc2) of 36 T and the irreversibility field (Birr) of 27 T have been estimated at the temperature of 5 K in a bulk MgB2 sample with the addition of 10 wt% of sugar. The critical current density (Jc(Ba)) of sugar-doped samples has been significantly improved in the high field region. The value of transport Jc has reached as high as 108 A m-2 at 10 T …

Neutron Diffraction Study Of The Magnetic Order In Ndmn2ge1.6si0.4, Jianli Wang, Stewart Campbell, John Cadogan, A J Studer, Rong Zeng, S. Dou

Jianli Wang

Here we report a detailed investigation of NdMn2Ge1.6Si0.4; this forms part of our investigation of the magnetic order across the NdMn2Ge2−xSix (x = 0–2.0) series by magnetometry, x-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction over the temperature range 6–465 K. On decreasing the temperature from 465 K, NdMn2Ge1.6Si0.4 exhibits four magnetic transitions: (i) from paramagnetism to intralayer antiferromagnetism AFl at TIntraN ~ 430 K; (ii) AFl to canted ferromagnetism Fmc at TInterC ~ 330 K; (iii) Fmc to conical magnetic ordering …

Significant Improvement In The Critical Current Density Of In Situ Mgb2 By Excess Mg Addition, R Zeng, L Lu, Jianli Wang, J Horvat, W Li, Dongqi Shi, S Dou, M Tomsic, M Rindfleisch Jul 2013

Significant Improvement In The Critical Current Density Of In Situ Mgb2 By Excess Mg Addition, R Zeng, L Lu, Jianli Wang, J Horvat, W Li, Dongqi Shi, S Dou, M Tomsic, M Rindfleisch

Jianli Wang

We present a detailed analysis of the effects of excess Mg on the lattice parameters, the critical temperature (Tc), the critical current (Jc), the irreversibility field (Hirr), and the upper critical field (Hc2) of MgB2 bulks and wires produced by an in situ solid-state reaction method and the powder-in-tube method, respectively. It was found that Jc, Hirr, and Hc2 were significantly enhanced for Mg excess samples. All these properties were highly sensitive to the processing temperature for Mg excess samples, while there was only a weak dependence on processing temperature for normal ones. The Tc variation for the 10% Mg …

The results obtained have allowed us to clarify the contributions of the factors limiting critical current at low magnetic fields in doped MgB2.

Three First Order Magnetic Phase Transitions In Re-Entrant Ferromagnet Prmn1.4fe0.6ge2, Rong Zeng, Jianli Wang, Lin Lu, Wenxian Li, Stewart Campbell, S Dou Jul 2013

Three First Order Magnetic Phase Transitions In Re-Entrant Ferromagnet Prmn1.4fe0.6ge2, Rong Zeng, Jianli Wang, Lin Lu, Wenxian Li, Stewart Campbell, S Dou

Jianli Wang

Three first order magnetic phase transitions (FOMTs) have been detected and evaluated over the temperature range from 5 to 340 K at fields up to 9 T in PrMn1.4Fe0.6Ge2. All three FOMTs, from (with decreasing temperature) an antiferromagnetic (AFl) to a c-axis canted ferromagnetic (Fmc) state, to a c-axis canted antiferromagnetic (AFmc) state, and then to an Fmc state plus an additional Pr-sublattice magnetic contribution (Fmc + F(Pr)), exhibited temperature and field-induced transition features. A interesting phenomenon was observed, in that magnetic field can induce an AFmc to Fmc + F(Pr) transition, and then diminish and finally eliminate the re-entrant …

Large Magnetocaloric Effect In Re-Entrant Ferromagnet Prmn 1.4fe0.6ge2, Rong Zeng, S Dou, Jianli Wang, Stewart Campbell Jul 2013

Large Magnetocaloric Effect In Re-Entrant Ferromagnet Prmn 1.4fe0.6ge2, Rong Zeng, S Dou, Jianli Wang, Stewart Campbell

Jianli Wang

Magnetocaloric effects (MCE) at multiple magnetic phase transition temperatures in PrMn1.4Fe0.6Ge2 were investigated by heat capacity and magnetization measurements. PrMn1.4Fe0.6Ge2 is of a re-entrant ferromagnet and performs multiple magnetic phase transitions in the temperature range from 5 to 340 K. A large magnetic entropy change (−ΔSM) 8.2 J/kg K and adiabatic temperature change (ΔTad) 4.8 K are observed for a field change of 0–1.5 T around 25.5 K, associated with the field-induced first order magnetic phase transition (FOMT) from the antiferromagnetic to the ferromagnetic state with an additional Pr magnetic contribution. These results suggest that a re-entrant ferromagnet is probably …

Jianli Wang

The phase formation and the magnetic properties of YFe12−xNbx(x=0.70–0.90) compounds have been investigated by means of X-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements. The powder X-ray diffraction patterns show that all compounds investigated crystallize single phase in the tetragonal ThMn12-type of structure. The lattice parameters and the unit-cell volume increase slightly with increasing Nb content, but the Curie temperature does not change. The X-ray-diffraction patterns of aligned powders of the samples show that all the compounds investigated have uniaxial anisotropy at room temperature. At 1.5 K, the spontaneous magnetization, the anisotropy field and the anisotropy constant K1 decrease with increasing Nb content.

Temperature-Dependent Electrical, Elastic And Magnetic Properties Of Solgel Synthesized Bi 0.9ln 0.1feo 3 (Ln=Nd,Sm), J Schiemer, R L Withers, M Carpenter, Y Liu, Jianli Wang, L Noren, Q Li, W Hutchison

Jianli Wang

This report details correlated electrical, mechanical and magnetic behaviour in BiFeO3 ceramics doped with 10% Ln (Ln D Sm, Nd) ions on the Bi, or perovskite A, site and synthesized by a sol-gel method. The ceramics exhibit bulk piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties and clear ferroelectric domain patterns through piezoresponse force microscopy. Resonant ultrasound spectroscopy, dielectric spectroscopy and magnetometry studies show correlated magnetoelectromechanical behaviour and the existence of weak ferromagnetism for both compositions. An anomaly with simultaneous mechanical and magnetic signatures is discovered in both materials near room temperature, while previously reported transitions and anomalies are found to exhibit electro- and/or …
