Standard Setting In Accounting And Auditing: Considerations For Educational Evaluation, Jeri P. Ridings
Standard Setting In Accounting And Auditing: Considerations For Educational Evaluation, Jeri P. Ridings
Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to propose a plan for guiding the ongoing standard-setting process in educational evaluation. The strategy used was to identify standard-setting issues, consider how other fields that have been successfully engaged in the standard-setting process have dealt with these issues, and propose how the field of educational evaluation might deal with these issues.
The experience in standard setting by the fields of accounting and auditing provided the structure for the study. These fields were chosen because they have been successful in setting and using standards for self-regulation, the function of standards which is perhaps most …

Development Of A Model Of Technical Education For The Country Of Malawi, Tommy H. Nkungula
Dissertations
The social, political, and economic development of Malawi has brought with it rising expectations among the people, especially the youth. These aspirations cause the youth to quest for better food, clothing, housing, health and education. However, in order to escape from the poverty and misery there must be greater emphasis on the preparation of the youth for gainful employment. This calls for restructuring of the present educational system to make it suited to the needs of the people in Malawi. But to develop a system geared to providing individuals with skills necessary to enhance their human expectations and economic development …
Programmed Review Tests In A Psi Course, Terry E. Mcsween
Programmed Review Tests In A Psi Course, Terry E. Mcsween
Dissertations
Two experiments demonstrated that carefully programmed review tests can result in 90% mastery of course objectives. Introductory psychology students participated in two group comparisons of the effectiveness of review tests versus no review tests. Review tests were programmed in that difficult items were repeated on several review tests. In both studies, students taking review quizzes outperformed students not taking review quizzes on final examinations. In addition, students not taking review quizzes were more likely to drop the course.
A Field Study Of Goal-Based And Goal-Free Evaluation Techniques, John W. Evers
A Field Study Of Goal-Based And Goal-Free Evaluation Techniques, John W. Evers
Dissertations
Educational evaluation theorists propose two methodologies that could be used to assess a project or program's achievements. One method is well established and is called goal-based evaluation. The other has been proposed recently and is called goal-free evaluation. Little information exists about goal-free evaluation in field settings. The problem to be addressed was: What would be the results of a field study that compared the relative utility of operationalized versions of goal-free and goal-based evaluation techniques? The perspective selected to investigate this problem was evaluator/evaluee interactions. This study had two objectives: (1) to develop materials and procedures for using the …

A Study Of Decision Origins And Their Relationship To Selected Elementary Principals' Consultative Responses In Decision-Making Situations, Shawn Peter Dryer
Dissertations
The Problem. The purpose of this inquiry was to study elementary principals' responses to decisions. Situations that required a decision from the principal originated: (1) with superordinates, (2) with peers, (3) with the principal himself, (4) with subordinates, (5) with students, and (6) outside the formal school organization. The principals' responses studied were: (1) rely on self, (2) consult with a confidante, (3) consult with a group, (4) delegate the decision to others, and (5) decide to make no decision. Further purposes of the study were to: (1) assemble and analyze data related to decision origins and principals' responses, (2) …

A Discrete-Trial Choice Procedure And The Psychophysics Of Amount Of Reinforcement: A Preliminary Analysis, Frans Van Haaren
A Discrete-Trial Choice Procedure And The Psychophysics Of Amount Of Reinforcement: A Preliminary Analysis, Frans Van Haaren
Dissertations
A discrete-trial choice procedure, in which pigeons were exposed to one constant and one variable duration of reinforcement, was used to assess the effects of session-by-session manipulations in the variable reinforcement duration on the choice behavior of the subjects. Two groups of pigeons were used. Each subject in the first group was exposed to the same constant reinforcement duration (1.5, 3.0 or 6.0 sec), but different fixed-ratio trial completion requirements (5, 15 and 45). The subjects in the second group were exposed to all three different constant reinforcement durations while the trial completion requirement was kept constant with a variable-interval …
