The aim of the present study was to examine the influence of teaching metacognitive reading strategies on the reading self-efficacy beliefs of Iranian EFL learners. To this end, 90 upper-intermediate students (50 females and 40 males) were selected in several English language institutes in Shiraz, Iran. A pre-test of reading and a pre-test of reading self-efficacy beliefs were administered to the students to make sure about the homogeneity of their reading ability and their reading self-efficacy beliefs. This study aimed at investigating the influence of teaching listening comprehension strategies on the improvement of listening comprehension ability of Iranian EFL learners. In doing so, 80 upper-intermediate students were chosen to take Interchange Placement Test. The students were divided equally into two groups: experimental group and control group. They were given a strategy use questionnaire. According to the results of the study, the experimental group showed higher levels of proficiency in comparison with the control group after receiving instruction. ABSTRACT Recent studies about achievement motivation mostly focus on individuals’ goals in academic situations which might affect educational behaviors and students’ academic achievement outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between motivational goal orientations and academic achievement of high school students of Shiraz, Iran. In total, 835 high school students of Shiraz participated in this study. The participants filled in the Inventory of School Motivation.
