New Regulations Can Stimulate Improvements In Efficiency And Sustainability For The U.S Cement Industry, Rebecca Mirsky Dec 2010

New Regulations Can Stimulate Improvements In Efficiency And Sustainability For The U.S Cement Industry, Rebecca Mirsky

Rebecca Mirsky

New environmental regulations on toxic and greenhouse gas emissions by cement manufacturers present the U.S. cement industry with significant challenges. This paper describes the current regulatory climate and describes a number of opportunities in which manufacturers can become more efficient in both energy and materials use. Ultimately, the new regulatory climate is seen as an opportunity for the industry to undertake long overdue modernization.

Improving Supply Chain Performance By Adopting Performance Measument Models, Taweesak Theppitak Jan 2008

Improving Supply Chain Performance By Adopting Performance Measument Models, Taweesak Theppitak

Journal of Transportation and Logistics (TRANSLOG)

Nowadays, dynamic changes arc significantly driving forces to companies to re-focusing on utilizing of people and research based on organizational objectives. Organisations need to provide a performance measurement system (PMS) to evaluate the resource utilisation so that they can strategically manage and properly control to achieve their objectives and goals. PM's role is dominantly increasing and it is growing in its scope and importance. However, the literature on performance measurement (PM) has changed over the past few decades. Due to limitation of traditional PMS that focusing on financial measures (ROI. cash flow), modern PMS focusing on non-financial measures such as …

Analysis Of Three Phase Controlled Rectifier With The Same Distance Control As Compared To The Same Angle Control, Sudirman S., Sri Kurniati A. Nov 2007

Analysis Of Three Phase Controlled Rectifier With The Same Distance Control As Compared To The Same Angle Control, Sudirman S., Sri Kurniati A.

Makara Journal of Technology

Analysis of three phase controlled rectifier with the same distance control as compared to the same angle control. This research aim to compare the firing of the same distance and the same angle control at three phase controlled rectifier with seen generated harmonic at input (AC side). Then calculate of rectifier efficiency and power factor comparison from both the control type. The rectifier use passive filter with resistance 11 ohm and is analysed with program simulation using PSPICE version 7.1. Result of research indicate that use of the same distance control generates the 5th and 7th harmonics, while the same …

Payback Information: It's Effect On Home Buyers Regarding Energy Efficiency, Steven E. Sparti Jun 2006

Payback Information: It's Effect On Home Buyers Regarding Energy Efficiency, Steven E. Sparti

Theses and Dissertations

This study was conducted to find out how payback analysis would affect consumer decision making with regards to home energy efficient upgrade packages. Three different home plans were obtained from a local builder and seven different energy efficient packages were created. Using Hot2000 the heating and cooling loads were calculated for each building, with each energy efficient package, in each of the four major cardinal directions. The averages were taken and the payback information was calculated. The payback information included the increased cost of the package, the increase in the mortgage payment, the annual savings from heating and cooling bills, …

Efficiency Through Accountability: Some Lessons From Kentucky’S Improved Medicaid Transit Service, Lenahan O’Connell, Ted H. Grossardt, Bruce Siria, Scott Marchand, Maureen Mcdorman Jan 2002

Efficiency Through Accountability: Some Lessons From Kentucky’S Improved Medicaid Transit Service, Lenahan O’Connell, Ted H. Grossardt, Bruce Siria, Scott Marchand, Maureen Mcdorman

Kentucky Transportation Center Faculty and Researcher Publications

The cost of providing nonemergency transportation to Medicaid and other transportation-eligible people has escalated sharply in the United States. In response, many states have reformed their human services transportation delivery systems. In this paper, we assess the results of Kentucky’s comprehensive reform of its transit system, including the impact on the quality of transit service for Medicaid-eligible users. With three sources of data—financial and other service data, a sample of Medicaid-eligible residents, and a sample of the transit providers—we assess the effectiveness of the new system. The data show that patronage levels increased dramatically under the new process, while unit …

Improving Efficiency Of Indot Traffic Data Collection Using Gps Devices, Shuo Li, Karen Zhu, Boudewijn H. W. Van Gelder, John Nagle, Carl Tuttle Jan 2002

Improving Efficiency Of Indot Traffic Data Collection Using Gps Devices, Shuo Li, Karen Zhu, Boudewijn H. W. Van Gelder, John Nagle, Carl Tuttle

JTRP Technical Reports

INDOT has utilized many new technologies to reduce travel delay, mitigate traffic congestion, and enhance public and employees’ safety. Many projects are underway, including re-timing of most existing traffic signals and pavement maintenance and rehabilitation. To evaluate signal system performance, prioritize alternatives of improvement, conduct before and after studies and investigate work zone safety, it requires a large amount of traffic data such as travel time, speed and delay. Issues, such as safety, efficiency and cost, may arise associated with the current methods. For the current manual or automatic data collection, it usually requires two operators, a driver and a …

Practical Determination Of Efficiency Of Electrostatic Precipitators, João F. Gomes Jan 1999

Practical Determination Of Efficiency Of Electrostatic Precipitators, João F. Gomes

João F Gomes

Electrostatic precipitators are one of the most efficient particulate pollution control equipments used mainly for the treatment of gaseous effluents at high flow rates. Consequently electrostatic precipitators are widely used in thermal power plants, cement plants and pulp mills. Apart from a high efficiency other advantages are related with the fact that this type of equipment has a considerable low payback time in industrial plants where the particulate recovered from the gases has commercial value and can be recycled within the industrial process itself or even sold to other industrial companies. Where sulphate (Kraft) pulp mills are concerned an electrostatic …

Farm Irrigation System Evaluation: A Guide For Management, John L. Merriam, Jack Keller Jan 1978

Farm Irrigation System Evaluation: A Guide For Management, John L. Merriam, Jack Keller

Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty Publications

This manual describes and explains detailed procedures for field evaluation of the performance of several types of sprinkle, surface, and trickle (drip) irrigation systems and of management practices. Most chapters include lists of equipment needed for performing these evaluations, give step-by-step instructions for gathering data in the field, show sample forms for recording and organizing these field data, and present sample studies that demonstrate the entire process. The book includes analyses and recommendations for a few actual case studies.

The introduction states and explains the general concepts of uniformity, efficiency, and management that are used in evaluating each system and …

Irrigation Demand In The Utah Lake Drainage Area The Role Of Irrigation Efficiency, Hiro Mizue May 1968

Irrigation Demand In The Utah Lake Drainage Area The Role Of Irrigation Efficiency, Hiro Mizue

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The effect of irrigation efficiency upon the water demand for agricultural purposes in the Utah Lake drainage area has been evaluated in this study . Irrigation demand is the quantity of water at the supply source necessary to satisfy crop water requirements, taking into account irrigation efficiency.

The Utah Lake drainage area was divided into hydrologic subareas and districts to facilitate analysis. The demand, surplus, and deficit quantities for each area was determined. The computations were made using constant mean quantities. Within a given area, the diverted water was assumed to be applied uniformly to satisfy agricultural crop demands, and …
