Managing Financial Sector Crisis: Do “Faith” And “Leave It To God” Matter?, Rebecca Attah, Christine Avortri, Emmanuel Appah, Alexander Preko

Spiritus: ORU Journal of Theology

The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to elucidate the understanding of two religious concepts related to the financial sector clean-up among bank customers; and second, to explore how these concepts have been employed as strategies to mitigate the impact of financial sector clean-up shocks in Ghana. This qualitative research is anchored in the theory of belief and meaning-making theory, utilizing purposive and snowball sampling methods, with twenty-eight in-depth interviews for data gathering. This panel will discuss the process involved in the formation of the Center for Faith and Family at Olivet. The concept of the Center originated in Spring of 2022 when Lilly Endowment invited Olivet to submit a grant proposal. The purpose of the grant was to establish a unique approach to providing resources that assist parents and caregivers to pass their faith to their children. In this panel discussion, the presenters will discuss the process of submitting the grant proposal, the steps taken to research and launch the Center, and the current initiatives of the Center.

By comparing the views of Thomas Aquinas and Martin Luther on the idea of justification, the author seeks to convey that faith in Christ helps one to grow and develop spiritually. The similarities and differences of the two figures offered in this sense invite Christians to see that their differences need not be contradictory and that they can be juxtaposed.
