Character: The Flame Of Writing, Madison Kate Stagner

Masters Theses

The Keeper: A Ring’s Promiser follows three parallel plots; two reside in the present, the other in the past. The knowledge revealed in one increases the precariousness of the other. While in the very beginning, these three perspectives were intended to volley within one book, the course has evolved. Due to this becoming a series, the plots will intertwine slower than intended. The introduction of the others will be woven later than intended. In this first novel, the reader will follow the dynamic journey of a young Amara Knightfall. The soon-to-be queen, Elaraina Wastereon, will be tied into the plot …

“Who Do You Say That I Am?”: Literary Portrayal Of Religious Experience, William Wood May 2024

“Who Do You Say That I Am?”: Literary Portrayal Of Religious Experience, William Wood

Masters Theses

Literature is one of the primary means through which God has revealed Himself to the world. Christian writers, therefore, should be bold to portray their God in and through the religious experiences of their characters. Evaluating classic and contemporary literature, four distinct methods of portraying religious experience may be described, each with varying levels of flexibility and faithfulness. Works of literature such as fantasy fiction may include any and all of these methods, even while that literature pursues other themes. In this thesis, an Artist Statement describes the included work of fiction, with its literary context, impetus, and personal significance. …

Fostering Lgbtq Spirituality: A Campus Case Study, Tracy Morin May 2024

Fostering Lgbtq Spirituality: A Campus Case Study, Tracy Morin

Graduate Doctoral Dissertations

The importance of spirituality in the lives and identities of LGBTQ students is sufficiently documented in extant scholarship to encourage campus leaders to consider spiritual support in their efforts to improve campus climate (Birch, 2011; Gold & Stewart, 2011; Love et al., 2005; Means et al., 2016; Pryor et al., 2017), but there is minimal research to gauge whether, where, and how this consideration is being enacted. Even the Campus Pride Index, the nation’s premier resource for ranking the LGBTQ-friendliness of colleges and universities, does not consider support for spirituality in their campus assessment criteria. The purpose of this study …

Alabaster Glory., Chloe Cheng

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Alabaster Glory includes three installations in the gallery space: 望(wàng), 盛(chéng), and 余(yú). These components represent three stages of human life: the beginning, living on this earth, and the end. The core concept behind the three stages is the relationship between the creator (God) and creations, referring to humans that live in this broken world containing suffering, chaos, crime, conflict, or the personal experience of an inner void.

Alabaster Glory invites viewers to walk through the space first to encounter a magnitude of infant heart forms placed by a window, which intends to evoke curiosity about their quantity and symbolism. …

The Influence Of Prayer On Anxiety In Black Males: A Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study, Robin Houston Stitt

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Prayer is a primary indicator that Christians use to infuse meaning into their lives and navigate life's difficulties. Acquiring the capacity to cope with anxious feelings through spiritual disciplines, practices, and rituals can assist in anxiety relief. The literature indicates that the church has always served as a refuge when life-altering events occur. According to I Corinthians 12:13, the church is one body of believers, unified for a common purpose. Anxiety is defined as a state of distress caused by a perceived social threat. The purpose of this study in Pastoral Care and Counseling was to ascertain why studies have …

Affinity: A Celebration Of Community Through Poetry, Evan A. Gates Apr 2024

Affinity: A Celebration Of Community Through Poetry, Evan A. Gates

Student Scholar Showcase

The language of poetry extends far beyond the creative writing classroom; song lyrics, Bible verses, instruction manuals, and even advertisements utilize the power of words to portray a message. Like an art portrait, everyone’s unique perception helps to create a larger sense of unity through diversity. Poets emphasize the many ways culture constructs varying opinions amongst the human race. At the University of Lynchburg, people of many different demographics share one common thread: the pursuit of community. Whether local or foreign, English teacher or scientist, white or black, Lynchburg is the centerpiece of intellectual curiosity. While the school remains situated …
