The medicinal properties of narcissus plants are attributed to the presence of Amaryllidaceae alkaloids. Elicitors, such as nanoparticles, are employed to enhance the production of secondary metabolites through signaling and the generation of reactive oxygen species. We investigated the effects of Fe3 O4 nanoparticles (Fe3 O4 -NPs), trans-cinnamic acid (tCA), and L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) precursors on various physiological and biochemical parameters in Narcissus tazetta L., with a particular focus on alkaloid content. Fe3 O4 - NPs treatment significantly increased photosynthetic pigments, secondary metabolites (including alkaloids, phenolic compounds), total soluble carbohydrates, and polysaccharides. The activities of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, POD), phenylalanine …

Turkish Journal of Botany
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is currently considered to be an important stress metabolite with regulatory functions in plants. Exogenous GABA is known to be able to enhance the tolerance of different plant species to drought and salt stress. However, its effects on the functioning of stress-protective systems in triticale, an intergeneric wheat-rye hybrid with specific adaptation strategies to abiotic stresses, remained completely unstudied. We studied the effects of exogenous GABA (0.5 mM) on the growth as well as on the antioxidant and osmoprotective systems of triticale seedlings (cv. 'Rarytet') under simulated drought (15% PEG 6000), salt stress (100 mM NaCl), or …

Turkish Journal of Botany
The campos rupestres, ecosystems that are both unique and highly diverse, are home to a variety of endemic species, including Comanthera bisulcata (Eriocaulaceae). This species, of economic importance, has its inflorescences used in handicrafts due to the fact that they retain the appearance of living structures even after being harvested and dried. The trade of these inflorescences depends almost exclusively on extraction, an activity of great importance for the traditional communities of the Espinhaço Meridional municipalities, in Minas Gerais. However, research is essential to improve the management of this native species. In this study, we highlight the importance of pollination …

During studies on the taxonomical delimitation of some species of Funalia, some inconsistencies were observed in the genus. Based on morphological and phylogenetic analyses, Fomitella supina was positioned within the Funalia clade, thus the synonymization of the genus and the new combination of F. supina are proposed. Funalia glabrorigens is also combinated in the genus, while Coriolopsis hainanensis is suggested as a synonym of F. floccosa and F. rigida is assumed as a distinct species from F. floccosa. A table with morphological comparison of the 10 Funalia species confirmed by molecular analyses is also presented.

Technological Bottlenecks And Innovative Developments For Rubber Tree Breeding In China, Yongshuai Sun, Weimin Tian, Deli Zhai, Yongping Yang
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Superior varieties of rubber trees are crucial elements in achieving stable production and supply of natural rubber. In China, rubber tree planting areas are situated at the northern edga of the world’s tropical zone and thus belong to non-traditional rubber tree planting areas with climatic conditions inferior to the traditional ones in Southeast Asia. The planted rubber trees are frequently damaged by low temperatures and diseases. Therefore, an urgent need in natural rubber production is to develop varieties with highyield potential and strong stress-tolerance. The scarcity of such varieties is mainly ascribed to the highly heterozygous genome, a long juvenile …

A Comprehensive Study On The Molecular Characterization Of Tomato Spotted Wilt Orthotospovirus Isolates And Resistance Genes In Pepper And Tomato, Qurat Ul Ain Sajid, Emi̇nur Elçi̇
Turkish Journal of Botany
Tomato spotted wilt orthotospovirus (TSWV, Orthotospovirus tomatomaculae) resistance genes (Tsw, Sw5) have been identified in pepper and tomato plants. The development of resistant cultivars is one of the popular management strategies for overcoming viral infections. However, the breakdown of resistance genes has been documented from many places where resistant cultivars have been developed. This has mainly been due to the emergence of resistance-breaking (RB) lines because of the consecutive use of these cultivars. The development of these isolates may cause great losses in both tomato and pepper plants in Türkiye. To investigate the incidence of TSWV, 150 symptomatic samples were …

Urban farming can enhance the lives of communities and help reduce food scarcity. This paper presents a conceptual prototype of an efficient urban farming community that can be scaled for a single apartment building or an entire community across all global geoeconomics regions, including densely populated cities and rural, developing towns and communities. When deployed in coordination with smart crop choices, local farm support, and efficient transportation then the result isn’t just sustainability, but also increasing fresh produce accessibility, optimizing nutritional value, eliminating the use of ‘forever chemicals’, reducing transportation costs, and fostering global environmental benefits.

The aim of the current study was to compare the histological observations of stems, leaves, and different secretory structures of Thymus ciliatus at three phenological stages. The anatomical observations of stems, leaves, and glandular trichomes were carried out by light microscopy. The results showed that phenological stages do not affect significantly the anatomical, whereas there was a significant increase in secretory trichomes. The glandular trichomes are distributed on the surface of the stems and the leaves. There are only two distinct types of secretory trichomes, Peltate consisting of a basal cell, a stalk cell, and an 8-celled head type, which …
