The United Nations Development Programme and the Government of the Maldives commissioned the drafting of a penal code based upon existing Maldivian law, which meant primarily a codification of Shari'a. This is the Final Report of that codification project. A description of the process that produced this Report and the drafting principles behind it, as well as a discussion of the special challenges of codifying Islamic criminal law, are contained in an article at http://ssrn.com/abstract=941443.

The study employed teacher surveys and student surveys from sixth grade boys in three San Bernardino middle schools.
Murder, Denunciation And Criminal Policing In Weimar Berlin, Sace E. Elder
Murder, Denunciation And Criminal Policing In Weimar Berlin, Sace E. Elder
Faculty Research & Creative Activity
In the years since 1989, there has been a wealth of scholarly research into role of denunciation in supporting Germany’s two twentieth-century authoritarian regimes. The shocking revelation after the collapse of East German communism and the opening of the Stasi archives that hundreds of thousands of GDR citizens had served as ‘informal collaborators’ with the secret police seemed to help explain how a relatively small police organization managed to create a culture of terror and conformity. By focusing on the cooperation of ordinary citizens with policing institutions in the surveillance of public and private behaviors, scholars of Nazi Germany have …

Black And White And Read All Over: An Analysis Of Narratives In The O.J. Simpson Murder Trial, Martin Larry Lastrapes
Black And White And Read All Over: An Analysis Of Narratives In The O.J. Simpson Murder Trial, Martin Larry Lastrapes
Theses Digitization Project
The thesis examines the O.J. Simpson murder trial and analyzes the racial narratives that affected its outcome and the way it is perceived by the American public. By examining four books about the trial written by lawyers who served on the case, the analysis focuses on how race functions within each of the reconstructed narratives, as well as within the framework of the U.S. criminal justice system. The author argues that racial narratives affect how and why people can see the same event differently, a prime example of which is the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Representations of Mark Fuhrman, his …
Rättens Ordning I Den Tid Som Återstår, Matilda Arvidsson
Rättens Ordning I Den Tid Som Återstår, Matilda Arvidsson
Dr Matilda Arvidsson
The article investigates the fundamental concept of 'time' within the framework of the laws of war, using the War on Terrorism as a starting point and the 2003 invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq as an example. The article argues for an eschatological understanding of time during the War on Terrorism, framing a state of exception, and ultimately keeping law on hold in an enduring 'now' while messianic hopes for redemption are directed towards a new future to come after war.
