The Mixing Of English And Thai In Thai Television Program, Prathana Kannaovakun, Albert C. Gunther

This study set out to systemically observe and describe the mixing of English with Thai-based discourse, often termed code-mixing, in Thai television programs. Data came from 100 hours of programming randomly samples from five genres of Thai television programs - Thai drama, talk or variety shows, academic or hard talk shows, game shows and sports programs. Finding showed that code-mixing is common, with sports programs producing the most. A great number of code-mixing were single nouns. English mixes occurred even when Thai equivalents existed. In the Bangkok period, the literary classic Ramakian has been reproduced again and again, either in literary forms or performing arts. This literary piece has been reinvented many times, particularly in the course of cultural crisis so as to demonstrate the glory of Thai culture. Although Ramakian is still able to be seen in the form of traditional theatre, i.e., khon (a masked dance-drama) in particular, it was also re-created in modern theatrical form during the mid-1990s, during which a cultural campaign was promoted by the government. The paper seeks to explore how peasant women are portrayed in Vietnamese literature and tries to highlight that, throughout the development of Modern Vietnamese literature, the way in which peasant women are portrayed is closely related to political agendas and ideological struggles. It also proposes that the construction of peasant women in Vietnamese literature is not only gender-based, but also class-bound. In the period between 1930 and 1945, the victimization of peasant women was used as a tool to criticise the colonial administration. This essay aims to explore how the interconnected issues of nationhood and national identity are treated in Garbriel Garcia Marquez's novel Cien años desoledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Through a discussion of the two basic yet complex themes of reality and history set against the exclusive backdrop of Colombian history, it is also intended to show how the author reinscribes the myth of nationhood by decentering what Jean-Francois Lyotard terms the metanarratives of the West, while simultaneously demystifying the monolithic concept of national identity in this work.

Based on the generalization and classification of passives in the world's languages put forward by Givόn (1979), Siewierska (1984), and Keenan (1990) this study recapitulates the universal types of passive. Twenty types of passive are proposed. They are grouped into ten pairs of contrastive types; namely, passive vs. ergative, true passive vs. pseudo-passive, direct vs. indirect passive, sentential vs. lexical passive, personal vs. impersonal passive, plain vs. reflexive passive, neutral vs. adversative or favorable passive, basic vs. non-basic passive, synthetic vs. periphrastic passive, passive with patient subject vs. passive with non-patient subject. Talmy's influential typology of verb-framed / satellite-framed languages has recently been shown to be insufficient (Strömquist and Verhoeven 2003), in particular with respect of serial-verb languages (Zlatev and Yangklang 2004; Slobin 2003). In this paper, we compare motion event constructions in three languages, where two are clear representatives of Talmy's two types: French and Swedish, and the third is a serial-verb language, Thai. As expected, Thai turns out to resemble French in some respects, Swedish in others but also to possess structural (i.e. syntactic and semantic) characteristics which distinguish it from the two Talmian types. In general, time markers which mark a sequence of events can be divided into two main types: markers that have locution time of utterance as the referential point, and markers that have the mentioned time in the text as the referential point. Both types of markers range from one word which can be either inherent or derived to such constructions as noun phrases and preposition phrases. The study shows an increase in both the derived words and phrasal constructions in the four studied periods: Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, Mid-Rattanakosin and Modern Thai. บทความวิจัยนี้ต้องการศึกษาว่าความเป็น "ผู้หญิง" ของ ผู้กำกับการแสดงละครเวทีมีส่วนสำคัญหรือไม่อย่างไรในการ กำหนดเรื่องราวและกลวิธีในการกำกับการแสดงละครเพื่อสื่อสาระ กับผู้ชมของตน ผู้วิจัยรวบรวมข้อมูลจากการชมละคร 20 เรื่องใน เทศกาล ละครนานาชาติ ที่กำกับโดยผู้กำกับการแสดงหญิงจากเอเชีย 6 ชาติ จากการวิเคราะห์สาระของละคร พบว่าการเป็น "ผู้หญิง" ของผู้กำกับการแสดงนั้นทั้งมีและไม่มีความสำคัญในการพัฒนา และสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน เพราะความเป็นผู้หญิงเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของ ภูมิหลังของผู้กำกับการแสดง การเลือกเรื่องและสาระที่นําเสนอนั้น สะท้อนความคิดที่ผู้กำกับการแสดงให้ความสนใจ อันได้แก่ตัวตน และคุณค่าของผู้หญิงในสังคม กฎเกณฑ์ที่สังคมใช้บังคับให้ผู้หญิง ปฏิบัติ แม้ว่าผลงานละครที่ผู้กำกับการแสดงหญิงนำเสนอนั้นมีความเฉพาะในสาระและตัวละครที่เป็นผู้หญิง แต่ประเด็นที่ นำเสนอนั้นมีความเป็นสากล ซึ่งผู้กำกับการแสดงไม่ว่าเพศใดควร ให้ความสำคัญเช่นกัน ส่วนการนำเสนอผลงานแก่ผู้ชมนั้น สะท้อนบริบทของสังคมและมีความหลากหลาย มีการค้นคว้าทดลอง รูปแบบการนําเสนอที่จะเชื่อมโลกของศิลปะแบบดั้งเดิมกับชีวิตปัจจุบัน

จริยศาสตร์แห่งความอาทร โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งที่ได้รับแรง บันดาลใจจากงานเขียนเรื่อง "จากเสียงที่ต่างไป" ("In A Different Voice") ซึ่งเริ่มจากการ "ฟัง" เสียงผู้หญิงและประสบการณ์ทาง จริยธรรมของผู้หญิงกลับช่วยดึงจริยศาสตร์ให้ติดดิน หยั่งฐานจาก ความจริงของบริบทชีวิตมนุษย์ ซึ่งก็คือการอิงอาศัยซึ่งกันและกัน การที่จริยศาสตร์ดังกล่าวเน้นความสำคัญของบริบทและเรื่องเล่า ทำให้เราต้องทบทวนความเข้าใจจริยศาสตร์และปัญหาจริยศาสตร์ กันใหม่ ในกระบวนทัศน์ดังกล่าวทฤษฎีจริยศาสตร์ที่จะช่วยเป็น แนวทางการดำเนินชีวิตได้จะต้องมีที่มาจากประสบการณ์ทางจริยธรรมในบริบทชีวิตจริงของคนจริงๆ ที่มีอัตลักษณ์และดำรงอยู่ ในเครือข่ายแห่งความสัมพันธ์ ทฤษฎีจริยศาสตร์ดังกล่าวจะต้องมุ่งจุดสนใจสู่ความต้องการจริงและการสนองความต้องการนั้นๆ อย่างเหมาะสม นี่หมายความว่ามนุษย์จะต้องมีการคุยกันมากขึ้น ฟังกันมากขึ้น นอกจากการพูดคุยกันจะถือเป็นกุญแจที่จะนำไปสู่การตัดสินและการแก้ปัญหาจริยธรรมแล้วยังถือเป็นสาระสำคัญของผู้ที่มีจริยธรรมอย่างแท้จริง ที่สําคัญพอกันก็คือทฤษฎีจริยศาสตร์ที่ใช้ได้จะต้องเข้าใจปัญหาจริยธรรมว่าเป็นปัญหาในความสัมพันธ์ และชีวิตที่ดีคือชีวิตในความสัมพันธ์ที่ส่งเสริมดุลยภาพของตัวตนสัมพันธ์

ในบทความนี้ ข้าพเจ้ากล่าวถึงแนวคิดและข้อโต้แย้งของเพลโตในเรื่องธรรมชาติของผู้หญิงดังที่ปรากฏในบทที่ห้าของ Republic ข้าพเจ้าอภิปรายและวิจารณ์ข้อโต้แย้งดังกล่าวในงาน เขียนของซูซาน มอลเลอร์ โอคินจากหนังสือ Women in Western Political Thought ข้าพเจ้าต้องการแสดงให้เห็นว่าโอคินตีความข้อโต้แย้งของเพลโตที่ว่าด้วยเรื่องธรรมชาติของผู้หญิงและผู้ชาย ผิดพลาด อันทำให้สมมติฐานของข้อสรุปของเธอผิดไปด้วย และทำให้ข้อสรุปของเธอไม่สมเหตุสมผล

ข้อเขียนนี้ต้องการตอบคำถามว่า นักญาณวิทยาควรทุ่มเทเวลาให้กับการอ่านและติดตามข้อถกเถียงในสาขาญาณวิทยาสตรี นิยมหรือไม่ คำตอบของดิฉันค่อนไปทางปฏิเสธ เมื่อดูแนวทางศึกษาของญาณวิทยาสตรีนิยมสองแบบ ได้แก่ ทฤษฎีจุดยืนนิยมและโพสโมเดิร์นแบบสตรีนิยมจะพบว่ามีความไม่คงเส้นคงวาบางอย่าง ขณะที่อีกแนวทางศึกษาหนึ่งคือประสบการณ์นิยมแบบสตรีนิยมจะประสบปัญหาในการแสดงว่าภายใต้กรอบเชิงบรรทัดฐานสามารถรับมโนทัศน์เรื่องการสังเกตกับความคิดที่ว่าญาณวิทยาเป็นโครงการหนึ่งในวิทยาศาสตร์ของไควน์ได้อย่างไร นอกจากนี้โครงการของญาณวิทยาสตรีนิยมในปรัชญาวิทยาศาสตร์ก็ยังไม่ประสบผลสำเร็จใน การแสดงให้เห็นว่ามีอคติทางเพศในวิทยาศาสตร์ในระดับทฤษฎี

บทความนี้ให้ภาพประวัติศาสตร์เกี่ยวกับสตรีไทย โดย สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงสถานภาพของสตรีไทยในด้านต่างๆ คือ ด้านชีววิทยา ความสัมพันธ์กับครอบครัว เศรษฐกิจ สังคม และการเมือง บทวิเคราะห์ นี้ใช้หลักฐานสำคัญ 2 อย่าง คือ 1. ภาษิตโบราณของกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ไตหรือไทยในเวียดนาม ภาคตะวันตกเฉียงเหนือ ภาษิตไตหรือไทยดังกล่าวผู้เขียนอ่านจาก ภาษาเวียดนาม 2. กฎหมายตราสามดวง กฎหมายประเพณีของไทยนี้มี มาตั้งแต่สมัยอยุธยาหรือก่อนหน้าขึ้นไป หลักฐานชิ้นแรกชี้ถึงโครงสร้างในอดีตที่ต่อเนื่องของสังคม เกษตรโบราณไทยโดยสังคมนี้ได้สืบทอดแนวคิดเรื่องความเสมอภาค ระหว่างชายหญิงจากพื้นฐานสังคมหมู่บ้านไทย แต่ในขณะเดียวกัน สังคมก็แสดงพัฒนาการอำนาจปิตาธิปไตยอย่างเห็นได้ชัดแล้ว หลักฐานชิ้นที่สองทำให้เห็นสองรูปแบบของกฎเกณฑ์และกฎหมายของรัฐ ซึ่งได้ลดทอนสถานภาพและบทบาทของสตรีไทยลงไปเรื่อยๆ กฎหมายนี้แท้ที่จริงได้เปิดเผยให้เห็นถึงสิทธิและผลประโยชน์ของผู้ชายอันมีมากกว่าผู้หญิงอย่างมาก นอกจากนี้ กฎหมายตราสามดวงได้บอกให้เรารู้ถึงปัญหาที่ รุนแรงบางอย่างในสังคมประเพณีไทย ดังนี้ 1. ความยากลำบากต่างๆ ของผู้หญิง โดยเฉพาะการ ทำงานหนักแทบทุกอย่างในครัวเรือน และการเอารัดเอาเปรียบ ต่าง ๆ ตามปกติของผู้ชาย 2. สิ่งที่เห็นชัดคือมีอาชญากรรมและการคุกคามทางเพศ การทะเลาะเบาะแว้งต่างๆ ภายในครอบครัว ปัญหาข้างต้นยังซ่อน ปัญหาสืบเนื่องไปถึงการแตกสลายของครอบครัวด้วย 3. ผู้หญิงไทยในสังคมประเพณีไร้ศักดิ์ศรีของตนเอง ไร้ อิสรภาพ และดูจะขาดความสุขที่แท้จริง

ในผลงานประพันธ์ประเภทนวนิยายของมาร์เกอริต ยูร์เซอนาร์ แก่นเรื่อง "กาย" เป็นแนวทางสำคัญในการถ่ายทอด แนวคิดเรื่องสกลภาวะ (luniversalite) ตัวละครมีลักษณะเป็นปัจเจก บุคคล แต่มีขั้นตอนและประสบการณ์ชีวิตร่วมกัน ต่างมุ่งมั่นที่จะแสวงหาแก่นแท้ของตนในตอนต้นโดยอาศัยการเดินทางท่องไปในโลกกว้าง พร้อมกับสร้างสัมพันธภาพกับผู้อื่นผ่านอินทรียสัมผัส ได้ เรียนรู้ประสบการณ์ชีวิตอันหลากหลายก่อนที่จะยุติการแสวงหา จากภายนอก แล้วหันมาแสวงหาลึกลงไปภายในตนเองด้วยการ พิจารณาอินทรียสังขาร ทำให้เกิดความเข้าใจในสัมพันธภาพ ระหว่างมนุษย์กับจักรวาลซึ่งกลมเกลียวเป็นหนึ่งเดียว ปราศจาก การแบ่งแยกระหว่างคน สัตว์ พืช ตลอดจนสรรพสิ่งทั้งมวลใน ธรรมชาติ ตัวละครประจักษ์ชัดว่าเรือนกายของตนประกอบด้วย ดิน น้ำ ลม ไฟ ซึ่งเป็นธาตุของจักรวาล มีการสูญสลายแล้วเกิดขึ้น ใหม่ หมุนเวียนเป็นวัฏจักรอย่างไม่มีที่สิ้นสุด และมีความตายเป็น ตัวกำหนดขีดจำกัดของสภาวะมนุษย์ ตัวละครตระหนักได้ว่า ความแปลกแยกของบุคคล ความขัดแย้งระหว่างมนุษย์ด้วยกัน เป็นเพียงสภาวะผิวเผิน เมื่อพิจารณาอย่างถ่องแท้แล้วก็จะพบเอก ภาวะที่โยงใยสรรพสิ่งทั้งปวงของจักรวาลไว้ด้วยกัน ด้วยเหตุนี้ ตัวละครจึงสามารถละทิ้งวิถีชีวิตที่เคยมี เคยเป็น แล้วยอมรับครรลองชีวิตและความตายตามกฎแห่งธรรมชาติได้ในที่สุด จึงอาจกล่าวได้ว่ามาร์เกอริต ยูร์เซอนาร์ อาศัยแก่นเรื่อง "กาย" เป็น แนวทางในการสร้างตัวละครที่แสดงพัฒนาการของมนุษย์ด้วยการ เริ่มต้นจากสภาวะปัจเจกบุคคล (l'individuel) แล้วผ่านขั้นตอนการ เรียนรู้โลกและชีวิต จนบรรลุถึงสภาวะสากล (l'universel)

บทความเรื่องนี้ศึกษาวิเคราะห์พฤติกรรมรักร่วมเพศชาย ในสังคมไทยว่ามีลักษณะเป็นเช่นไร จากการศึกษาพบว่าในสมัยจารีต แม้ว่าสังคมจะมีอคติต่อพฤติกรรมรักร่วมเพศในลักษณะที่ "เป็นความแปลกแยก" มิใช่ "หญิง" หรือ "ชาย" แต่ก็ไม่ปรากฏ ความคิดว่าพฤติกรรมรักร่วมเพศเป็นอันตรายต่อสังคมและไม่มีบทลงโทษอย่างรุนแรงดังเช่นในสังคมตะวันตก หลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่สอง บริบททางด้านเศรษฐกิจและสังคมได้เปลี่ยนไป กล่าวคือการรับวัฒนธรรมอเมริกันทำให้มีการรับความรู้ทางการแพทย์แบบตะวันตกที่มองว่า พฤติกรรมรักร่วมเพศเป็นโรคจิต ที่สามารถบำบัดรักษาให้หายได้

The styles of composition dramatically vary between detailed enumeration and concision, prose and verse, translation in the style of nissaya and non-nissaya, single language and dual languages- Pāli and another language. This paper discusses patterns of use and various functions of the frequent Thai expression mai pen rai, which can be roughly glossed as 'never mind'. The study is based on conversational data: face-to-face and by phone. Mai pen rai is a linguistic pattern requiring appropriate knowledge for its practical use in the culture of everyday human communication. The present paper has two intentions. It wants to sketch a typological basis for describing aspect in individual languages and for cross-linguistic comparison and it wants to present some first ideas of how aspect works in languages of East and mainland Southeast Asia. Aspect will be defined in terms of a "selection theory of aspect".
