Evaluation Of Sethoxydim & Mbr 22359 For Control Of Rhizome Johnsongrass (Sorghum Halepense) In Soybeans (Glycine Max), E. Craig Musselman
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Johnsongrass (Sorghum halepense) is one of the most troublesome weeds in the southeastern United States. -everal herbicides have been developed to combat johnsongrass, and many new experimental herbicides with high johnsongrass control potential are presently being tested. Two of these new experimental herbicides for johnsongrass control in soybeans (Glycine max) are sethoxydim and MBR 22359.
Field experiments were conducted in 1981 and 1982 to evaluate the effectiveness of MBR 22359 preemergence and postemergence, sethoxydim in single and split applications, trifluralin in combination with mefluidide, or with glyphosate or sethoxydim in the wick, and alachior in combination …

The Problems And Prospects Of The Kimberley Pastoral Industry, R B. Hacker
The Problems And Prospects Of The Kimberley Pastoral Industry, R B. Hacker
Resource management technical reports
The pastoral industry in the Kimberley region began in the early 1880s withthe introduction of cattle overlanded from Queensland and New South Wales into the East Kimberley and with the almost simultaneous introduction, by sea, ofboth sheep and cattle into the Fitzroy Valley.Occupation of the more accessible areas was gradually achieved by theprogressive extension of these two arms of settlement which ultimately metaround the present location of Fitzroy Crossing. Extensive development of themore rugged areas of the North Kimberley came later with the construction ofreasonable access roads to the few isolated stations which had been initiallyestablished in this area.

Foot Rot, Don Hudson
Foot Rot, Don Hudson
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension: Historical Materials
Foot rot (necrotic pododermatitis, foul foot) can be a very annoying problem in cattle. Once started in a herd and "seeded" in the soil, it may persist for quite a long time. Although the incidence of foot rot may not be high at any one time, it requires constant observation to prevent serious economic loss. The bacterium Fusobacterium necrophorum has been reported to cause foot rot. However, researchers have not been able to reproduce typical foot rot lesions with this organism. Recent research at the University of Missouri indicates that a combination of Fusobacterium necrophorum and Bacteroides melaninogenicus are the …

The Economics Of Irrigated Crop Production In Eastern South Dakota, Donald Taylor, Richard C. Shane
Economics Research Reports
The economics of dryland versus irrigated crop production in two of South Dakota's ·fast-irrigation-growth counties -- Brookings and Turner are examined in this paper. Special attention is given to the economic impacts on the farm economy of rising energy prices and high interest rates. The analysis is in terms of conditions experienced during the 1981 crop year and projected conditions through 1990.

Direct Marketing In East Tennessee: A Study Of The Bradley County Farmers' Market, Jon Traunfeld
Direct Marketing In East Tennessee: A Study Of The Bradley County Farmers' Market, Jon Traunfeld
Masters Theses
The purposes of this study were to analyze the growth, structure and operation of the Bradley County Farmers' Market and to determine the factors contributing to the Market's success. Grower and consumer surveys were used to profile participants and isolate problems and suggestions for market improvement.
The Market's success was attributed to a wide range of factors: (1) technical assistance provided by the Extension Service, (2) a growing middle-class population in Cleveland, (3) preference by residents for fresh, locally-grown products, (4) a large number of retired, part-time and small-scale farmers in the area and (5) the location and special qualities …

Tb106: A Transshipment Model Of The Maine Milk Industry, Stuart Mclean, Alan S. Kezis, James Fitzpatrick, Homer B. Metzger
Technical Bulletins
A model was developed that included the cost of assembly, processing, and wholesale distribution of Class I milk within the state of Maine. Solution of the model with parameter values appropriate to current costs associated with these three aspects of the milk market yielded an achievable least cost allocation for performing the assembly, processing, and distribution of milk, adequate to meet demand, throughout the state. It is hoped that the model will prove a powerful planning and diagnostic tool.
