Analysis of continuous sap flux and stem growth measurements can help to elucidate how environmental conditions influence water status and stem growth in trees. Stem radius variations and sap flux densities of the drought-tolerant conifer Cedrus libani were measured using automatic point dendrometers and heat dissipation sensors, respectively. The study was conducted at the Elmalı Cedar Research Forest at 1665 m a.s.l. From April to September 2009, stem radius variation was measured hourly for nine C. libani trees. In Turkey, quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill.) is found as both a wild and a cultivated tree species. The Karanlıkdere Valley is a pit area between Şefaatli and Yerköy districts in Yozgat Province that originates from the River Delice. Members of the Yozgat Karanlıkdere Valley quince population, containing 17 quince accessions and 15 commercial quince cultivars, were DNA fingerprinted using 30 simple sequence repeat (SSR) primers to identify the genetic relationships among them. In this study, the kraft pulps of European black pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) and European aspen (Populus tremula L.) were fractionated according to fiber length in a Bauer McNett classifier and effects of fiber fractionation on paper properties were investigated. Bauer McNett screens used for European black pine and European aspen were 16, 30, 50, and 100 mesh and 30, 50, 100, and 200 mesh, respectively. The handsheet surface of each fraction was observed by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). Terrestrial light detection and ranging technology provides an accurate measurement of individual tree parameters that are essential for managing forest resources, modeling forest fires, planning forest operations, etc. This study aimed to measure individual tree parameters to model a single tree using terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) data. A high-resolution digital terrain model (DTM) was generated using point cloud data (2,800,430 points) to obtain the tree parameters. The effects of moisture content, internode region, and oblique angle on several mechanical properties of sainfoin stem were determined. The selected mechanical properties used were the shearing stress, specific shearing energy, bending stress, and modulus of elasticity when bending. The experiments were carried out with wet basis (WB) moisture contents of 71.76%, 45.57%, and 25.57%, at the third and second internode regions from the bottom up to the top, and 2 oblique angles (0° and 28°). In the present study, we aimed to investigate the physiological role of free polyamines (PAs) in fruit bud abscission of the Uzun pistachio variety, which has a strong alternate bearing tendency. The Sudan grass plant (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench subsp. drummondii) density and yield were determined in this 2-year research with different tillage systems and fertilization at 3 locations. After harvesting the main crops, 3 tillage treatments were applied: conventional (CT) mouldboard ploughing (25-30 cm deep), followed by disk harrowing and sowing: reduced tillage 1 (HDH) with 2 passes by a disk harrow (15-20 cm deep), followed by seedbed preparation, and reduced tillage 2 (LDH) with a single pass by a disk harrow. Nematode-resistant clonal rootstock use is limited in Turkey. Throughout a 3-year-study (2012-2014), targeted rootstock candidates were obtained through hybridization between almond and plum cultivars. Some characteristics, such as strong growth ability, compatibility with other almond cultivars, nematode resistance, and rooting of the cuttings were common among the hybrid types. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the hedgerow system is the main raspberry growing system, which has no clearly-defined standards regarding plant density and fruit-bearing potential per meter of hedgerow. This study evaluates the effect of precision cane meristem management in growing major floricane red raspberry cultivars in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of capsaicin application in different doses (0.0, 0.1, 1.0, 10.0, 25.0, 50.0, 100.0, and 200.0 ppm) on the germination, seedling growth, and yield of pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L. 'Burdem'). This study was carried out in 2015 and 2016 to investigate the use of ethephon and mepiquat chloride for reduction of damage to flowering and fruit set caused by late spring frosts in Black Diamond plum. The single treatment of mepiquat chloride delayed full blooming by 5 days, while the ethephon treatment delayed blooming by 7 days. The interactive effect of the chemicals yielded more positive results in the delay of blooming, causing a delay of up to 11 days. An increase in fruit set was observed along with blooming. Autotetraploid rice is a new germplasm resource obtained by doubling chromosomes through colchicine treatment. There have been many studies on the reproductive characteristics of autotetraploid rice, but little is known about global DNA variations and reasons for low embryo sac fertility in autotetraploid rice. Therefore, an autotetraploid rice line (T446) was used for resequencing and embryo sac fertility was observed. The present study aimed to determine the rate of microsporidiosis in larvae and adult beetles in Calosoma sycophanta L. (Coleoptera: Carabidae) mass-rearing laboratories. Eighty larvae and 7420 adults of C. sycophanta were dissected from the mass-rearing laboratories and investigated for the presence of microsporidiosis. Microsporidiosis was determined in all localities. Four hundred and forty-one adults of the dissected insects were found to be infected and the total infection rate was 5.94%. A total of 80 C. sycophanta larvae from Balıkesir and Isparta examined in 2016 showed no microsporidiosis. The infection ratio was varied among populations and years. The total infection …

The phytochemical influence of rootstocks on the Hacıhaliloğlu apricot cultivar was examined in this study. Myrobolan 29-C, Myrobolan GF-31, Marianna 2624, Pixy, and Tokaloğlu rootstocks were used and organic acid, sugars, vitamin C, total antioxidant capacity, and phenolic compounds were identified. The highest phenolic compounds and antioxidant capacity were observed in Tokaloğlu rootstock. While Myrobolan GF-31 stood out in terms of organic acids and vitamin C, Pixy stood out in terms of sugar. The highest sugar content (sucrose) was recorded as 24.178 mg 100 g-1 in 'Pixy'. This study reports the response to salinity stress (100 mM, 200 mM, and 300 mM NaCl concentration) exposure of the commercially valuable medicinal plant Stevia rebaudiana during micropropagation for 4 weeks. The significant enhancement of physiological parameters, steviol glycosides (SGs), i.e. rebaudioside A and stevioside, as examined by high-performance liquid chromatography, and nonenzymatic antioxidant activities, i.e. total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, total antioxidant capacity, total reducing power, and DPPH-free radical scavenging activity, was observed during the shoot formation process under up to 100 mM NaCl stress. The root lesion nematode Pratylenchus spp. is one of the most important plant-parasitic nematodes causing global cereal yield losses. Effective management of plant-parasitic nematodes depends on reliable management strategies and comprehensive datasets estimating the distribution, abundance, and population change of nematode species. This study reports the occurrence of Pratylenchus neglectus in wheat-growing districts during the 2014/15 and 2015/16 cropping seasons in Bolu, Turkey. Pratylenchus neglectus was identified by both morphological and molecular methods. The nematode was detected in 11.6% of samples collected from five districts. This research was carried out to assess the biochemical diversity of the fruits of mulberry genotypes grown in Muş Province in the eastern Anatolia region and to determine the genotypes available for breeding. Morphological and biochemical characteristics of 13 mulberry fruit genotypes, including 5 white (Morus alba) and 8 black (Morus nigra), were determined. Fruit antioxidant capacity was determined by Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity assay. Fruit weight, pH, soluble solid content, titratable acidity, vitamin C, and antioxidant capacity were 1.38-3.77 g, 4.77-6.79, 14.33%-23.50%, 0.53%-2.20%, 4.47-35.83 mg 100 g-1, and 4.33-13.63 µmol Trolox equivalent g, respectively, indicating enough diversity among genotypes …

Tree growth, productivity, fruit quality attributes, and antioxidant activity were tested in apple cultivar Idared under different fertilization treatments from the 22nd to the 23rd year after planting in a heavy acidic soil under western Serbian conditions. Treatments included the use of aged cattle manure, compound NPK (15:15:15) mineral fertilizer, a multinutrient fertilizer commercially named Italpolina (ITP) (NPK + organic carbon + humic acids), two types of N mineral fertilizers (calcium ammonium nitrate [CAN] and urea), and control (no fertilization). The effects of warming (+3 °C) and drought (-30% precipitation) on the fine root decomposition of Pinus koraiensis seedlings were examined using a litter bag method. The study site included a full factorial design with two temperature and two precipitation levels, with three replicates. Litter bags containing fine root litter of 2-year-old P. koraiensis seedlings were retrieved after 3, 6, and 12 months of decomposition. The effects of flurprimidol, paclobutrazol, and ethephon treatment as soil drench on plant height and quantitative and other properties of native narcissus (Narcissus tazetta L.) plants grown in pots were investigated. When the plants were 7?10 cm tall, flurprimidol and paclobutrazol at 0, 1, and 2 mg/pot and ethephon at 0, 37.5, and 75 mg/pot were applied as soil drenches. This study evaluated 7 inbred lines of maize (Zea mays L.), 3 testers, and 21 hybrids produced using the line × tester mating design. The study was conducted in Konya, in The Central Anatolia Region of Turkey.
