Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

In the Tavşanlı Zone, the Eocene magmatism led to NW-SE trending plutons located just south of the İzmir-Ankara-Erzincan Suture Zone in Turkey. The Middle Eocene-aged Günyüzü Intrusive Complex (Karacaören, Tekören, Dinek, Kadıncık) is one of these plutonic rocks and has metaluminous to peraluminous, medium-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic and mainly I-type granite characteristics. The plutonic rocks consist of mainly granodiorite and granite, and their mafic microgranular enclaves are widespread in these rocks. Mineral assemblages in the host rocks and enclaves also are quite similar (quartz, plagioclase, K-feldspar, biotite, and hornblende), but the latter are more enriched in mafic minerals. The enclaves …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Devonian strata, including siliciclastic and carbonate rocks that were deposited in shallow marine to coastal environments, are widely distributed in the eastern Taurides of southern Turkey. To document the regional formation of the Givetian (Middle Devonian)/ Frasnian (Upper Devonian) boundary, a section in the eastern Taurides was studied in high resolution with regard to biostratigraphy, microfacies, sequence stratigraphy, and the global Frasne Event. The integrated biostratigraphic investigation was based on calcareous benthic foraminifers, ostracods, conodonts, and palynomorphs, which provide a biostratigraphic frame that allows to recognize the Givetian/Frasnian boundary. On the basis of the lithological variation in the outcrop as …

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Campanian-Maastrichtian (C-M) sediments in the Kalâat Senan area (north-western Tunisia) include rich microfauna. Small benthic foraminifera (SBF) analysis at the Wadi Necham (ON) section reveals significant biostratigraphic and palaeoecological changes during the C-M transition. A progressive evolutionary trend within the Bolivinoides lineage allowed us to establish the late Campanian B. decoratus Interval Range Zone (IRZ) and two successive zones in the early Maastrichtian, namely the B. miliaris IRZ and the B. draco Total Range Zone (TRZ), which span the standard planktonic foraminifera Gansserina gansseri IRZ. Foraminiferal semiquantitative data from the C-M transition interval at the studied section yield high values …

Estimating The Location Of A Causative Body From A Self-Potential Anomaly Using 2d And3d Normalized Full Gradient And Euler Deconvolution, Petek Sindirgi, Şenol Özyalin

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Changes in the size and depth of sources greatly affect self-potential (SP) anomalies. Therefore, it is important to determine the location of the source accurately. In the present study, applications of the normalized full gradient (NFG) method and Euler deconvolution (EUD) were described to determine the location of the sphere-like SP body as complementary approaches to other optimization algorithms. The NFG and EUD methods were tested on synthetic, noise-free, and noisy anomalies caused by sphere-like models in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) cases. Subsequently, the methods were applied to real field data. The importance of the present study lies in …

Identification And Functional Analysis Of Soybean Gmsbh1 Gene Promoter Conferring High Temperature- And Humidity-Induced Expression, Ming Chen, Peipei Qian, Zhankui Wang, Yingjie Shu, Yuan Tao, Liyan Huang, Yilong Wang, Haihong Zhao, Hao Ma

Turkish Journal of Botany

Soybean homeobox gene GmSBH1 has previously been proven to be involved in response to high temperature and humidity (HTH) stress. To investigate its expression patterns and active cis-elements, a 2040-bp 5'-upstream genomic DNA fragment of GmSBH1,named GmSBH1P, was isolated by PCR walking and characterized. Sequence analysis revealed that the fragment contains a series of cis-acting elements related to stress responses. The transient expression assay in the leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana and in the cotyledonary nodes of soybean indicated that the GmSBH1P strongly and rapidly mediates the induction of GUS expression under HTH stress. Deletion and mutation analysis of the promoter …

Blue Sky At Midnight - Earthquake Lightning, Neil Whitehead, Ülkü Ulusoy Jan 2019

Blue Sky At Midnight - Earthquake Lightning, Neil Whitehead, Ülkü Ulusoy

Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

Earthquake light, emerging from the ground as flashes at night (neglecting other more minor forms), usually has a white hemispherical center and blue outer part. The blue resembles daytime blue sky. Its existence is increasingly verified, with about 80 videos on the web to mid-2017. However, the light must be differentiated from power-grid faults, so sound/color/form/length criteria were developed in this paper through examination of many videos. Light should be coseismic (i.e. when the S-waves arrive), hemispherical, not during a storm, less than 1 s long, without fire or smoke, and without many rapid color changes. Warnings about camera artifacts …

Studying New Generalizations Of Max-Min Matrices With A Novel Approach, Emrah Kiliç, Talha Arikan

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

We consider new kinds of max and min matrices, $\left[ a_{\max(i,j)}\right] _{i,j\geq1}$ and $\left[ a_{\min(i,j)}\right] _{i,j\geq1},$ as generalizations of the classical max and min matrices. Moreover, their reciprocal analogues for a given sequence $\left\{ a_{n}\right\} $ have been studied. We derive their $LU$ and Cholesky decompositions and their inverse matrices as well as the $LU$-decompositions of their inverses. Some interesting corollaries will be presented.

A Remark On A Paper Of P. B. Djakov And M. S. Ramanujan, Eli̇f Uyanik, Murat Hayretti̇n Yurdakul

Turkish Journal of Mathematics

Let $\ell$ be a Banach sequence space with a monotone norm in which the canonical system $(e_{n})$ is an unconditional basis. We show that if there exists a continuous linear unbounded operator between $\ell$-Köthe spaces, then there exists a continuous unbounded quasidiagonal operator between them. Using this result, we study the corresponding Köthe matrices when every continuous linear operator between $\ell$-Köthe spaces is bounded. As an application, we observe that the existence of an unbounded operator between $\ell$-Köthe spaces, under a splitting condition, causes the existence of a common basic subspace.
