A Review Study On Spiritual Intelligence, Adolescence And Spiritual Intelligence, Factors That May Contribute To Individual Differences In Spiritual Intelligence And The Related Theories, Siti Aishah Hassan Ph.D.

Siti Aishah Hassan Ph.D.

This study reviewed the articles about adolescence, its relation to spiritual intelligence and the related theories. The adolescence period is the best time to develop positive emotions and training skills, because adolescents are seeking to find their identity and their future personality at this period. Approach: Spiritual intelligence had a significant influence on the quality of life and it goes without saying that adolescence is a sensitive period which requires specific training to make a brighter future and be exposed to the difficulties. Spirituality can be viewed as a form of intelligence because it predicts functioning and adaptation and offers ...

Discursive Constructions Of Global War And Terror, Adam Hodges 2009 Carnegie Mellon University

Discursive Constructions Of Global War And Terror, Adam Hodges

Adam Hodges

In this chapter, I examine the dialogic connections involved in the global interchange of ideas about terrorism and the ‘war on terror.’ Discourse moves across national boundaries in a manner that shapes global relations and actions, and reshapes the dialogue that takes place within local contexts. To explore these processes, I discuss three contexts in detail. In the first, I examine recent work by Zala Volcic and Karmen Erjavec on the appropriation of the Bush administration’s ‘war on terror’ discourse by Serbian intellectuals (Volcic and Erjavec 2007, Erjavec and Volcic 2007). These young Serbs incorporate this discourse into their ...

Narrative Policy Framework: Clear Enough To Be Wrong?, Michael D. Jones, Mark K. McBeth 2009 University of Oklahoma

Narrative Policy Framework: Clear Enough To Be Wrong?, Michael D. Jones, Mark K. Mcbeth

Michael D. Jones

Narratives are increasingly subject to empirical study in a wide variety of disciplines. However, in public policy narratives are thought of almost exclusively as a post-structural concept outside the realm of empirical study. In this paper, after reviewing the major literature on narratives, we argue that policy narratives can be studied using systematic empirical approaches and introduce a “Narrative Policy Framework” (NPF) for elaboration and empirical testing. The NPF defines narrative structure and narrative content. We then discuss narrative at the micro-level of analysis and examine how narratives impact individual attitudes and hence aggregate public opinion. Similarly, we examine strategies ...

You Can’T Be Nonviolent Without Violence: The Rainbow Family’S Nonkilling Nomadic Utopia And Its Survival Of Persistent State Violence, Michael I. Niman Ph.D. 2009 Buffalo State College

You Can’T Be Nonviolent Without Violence: The Rainbow Family’S Nonkilling Nomadic Utopia And Its Survival Of Persistent State Violence, Michael I. Niman Ph.D.

Michael I Niman Ph.D.

Since 1972, the Rainbow Family of Living Light, a nonhierarchical nomadic community, has been holding large temporary gatherings in remote forests around the world to pray for world peace and to create a model of a functioning utopian society. Wherever and whenever they gather, the temporary Rainbow city remains essentially unchanged, modeling what anarchist theorist Hakim Bey calls the Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ). Revolutions, Bey writes, seek permanent change and, in doing so, lead to violence and martyrdom. Revolutionaries aim to hold territory. The TAZ, by contrast, does not directly engage the state, but instead “liberates an area (of land ...

The Political Tsunami: Not All Death And Destruction Is Natural, Michael I. Niman Ph.D. 2009 Buffalo State College

The Political Tsunami: Not All Death And Destruction Is Natural, Michael I. Niman Ph.D.

Michael I Niman Ph.D.

Unlike many disasters that befall the Third and Fourth Worlds, the 2004 Tsunami was both large and unique enough to dominate the western press. The stories in the mainstream media, however, were rather simplistic, sticking to a feel good script of nations uniting to offer aid to the tidal wave’s unfortunate victims. Meanwhile, without much media attention, the Indonesian government used the cover of the Tsunami and the ensuing relief efforts, to intensify its war against rebels in its break-away Ache province – which suffered from the brunt of the Tsunami. Also ignored by the western mass media, was the ...

Sensory Gardens: Assessing Their Design And Use, Hazreena Hussein 2009 Universiti Malaya

Sensory Gardens: Assessing Their Design And Use, Hazreena Hussein

Hazreena Hussein

This article investigates the design and use of sensory gardens by evaluating their zones and how they are utilized. Preliminary site studies were undertaken in 14 sensory gardens around the UK, followed by more detailed data collection at two case-study sites. The aim was to discover features that enable user behaviours and use of spaces in sensory gardens. The data collection included interview, observation and behaviour mapping, which is used in conjunction with affordance theory. The findings from the data analysis also draw on Moore and Cosco’s multi-method approach.

XXI

Direito, Utopia E Insularidade, Paulo Ferreira Da Cunha
