The current study explored the effect of metacognition training on the academic performance of middle-school students. Intervention sessions for 6th and 8th graders were designed and implemented to enrich metacognitive skills, based on Ambrose et al.’s (2010) model of metacognition. Two classrooms of 6th and 8th graders received the Learn 2 Learn metacognition curriculum, while two other classrooms in both grade levels received the control curriculum on school transitions for either high school or college. Do gender differences exist among Trinity students with respect to career and parenting expectations? Do gender differences also exist with respect to hostile versus benevolent sexism (Glick & Fiske, 1996)? Is sexism associated with career and parenting expectations for oneself? From these questions, I hypothesized that women would be more likely to hold career and parenting expectations that are mutually dependent; men would be more likely to hold career expectations that are independent of parenting expectations. Many young people of today view sexual intercourse with a very casual attitude. The terms “hooking up” and “friends-with-benefits” have been introduced to our vocabularies. While young people are, on average, losing their virginity at the age of 17, they are holding off on marriage until their mid-to-late 20’s (Bogle, 2008; Bianchi & Casper, 2000), and that combination leaves many years for sexual experimentation.
