Analysis Of Usage Of The Ohio State University’S Electronic Theses And Dissertations, Daniel S. Dotson

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

This study involves an examination of the download rates for The Ohio State University’s freely available electronic theses and dissertations. The Graduate School has required submission of doctorial (2002) and masters (2008) for over a decade, with limited exceptions, including embargos. Older digitized theses and dissertations have been made available over the past several years, resulting in over 51,000 titles in the online holdings. Download data from the OhioLINK Electronic Theses and Dissertations Center were analyzed to determine how well the theses and dissertations were used and what departments saw noted success for their students’ works.

University Libraries Materials Budget: Spring 2018, Sue Polanka, Karen Wilhoit

University Libraries' Staff Publications

The University Libraries’ mission is to provide exceptional research services and resources to facilitate faculty and student success. We strive to uphold this mission in all we do. Our budget remains a challenge however, and limits our ability to provide exceptional resources. The Libraries’ materials budget has been flat or reduced every year since 2009. During that time, journal prices have increased an average of 5% to 6% per year, and book prices have increased an average of 1% to 2% per year. Because our budget has not kept pace with inflation, we have been forced to cancel over 800 …

Almost three years after Google Scholar's inception, only a third of Ohio Library and Information Network (OhioLINK) member libraries link to it from their Web sites. This article reports the results of a July 2007 survey of OhioLINK academic librarians, conducted to find out about their attitudes and current practices regarding promotion of Google Scholar. It compares the findings about placement of Google Scholar on Web sites and inclusion in library instruction with previous research, and includes recommendations for libraries about Google Scholar.

Building A Cross-Institutional Infrastructure For Technical Services: The Ohiolink Collaborates Project, Barbara J. Strauss, Margaret Maurer, Julie Gedeon

Michael Schwartz Library Publications

Academic libraries in the 21st century must forge new cross-institutional service models based on the knowledge and expertise gained by years of building the shared bibliographic environment. Specific tools, such as cross-institutional best practices, must be developed. OhioLINK’s Database Management and Standards Committee (DMSC) is building the infrastructure that will enable OhioLINK libraries to look across institutional boundaries for inspiration and opportunities. In the spring of 2009 DMSC surveyed OhioLINK libraries to inventory cataloging and technical services expertise. The results are in and are available for use on a day-to-day basis by OhioLINK libraries. OhioLINK’s CollaboraTeS Project facilitates cross-institutional projects …
