The University of Central Florida (UCF) Libraries has developed a series of research data management sessions to provide support and promote awareness of available resources to the campus community, with an emphasis on outreach to graduate students and faculty. The Libraries does not have a formal research data management team or dedicated positions, and with this in mind, a team of librarians from Reference & Information Services, Digital Initiatives, and Scholarly Communication collaborated to plan opportunities for RDM programming.

This presentation was given for the Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference on October 2, 2020. The conference was to be held in Kazakhstan but was conducted virtually due to the pandemic. The session highlighted the reopening of the UCF Libraries and discusses the broad COVID-19 response on campus, spotlighting the 'new normal' of working and serving library patrons during the pandemic. Information is shared that may be useful to outside organizations in planning the reopening of their library spaces.

Honors undergraduate theses are modeled after Master's theses, and formatting review is an important part of the process. The Office of Honors Research (OHR) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) has, in the last two years, worked with the UCF Libraries to streamline the format review process in its Honors Undergraduate Thesis (HUT) program by making use of Digital Commons, the online platform used for the publication of theses and dissertations. Health Outcomes Of Tourism Development: A Longitudinal Study Of The Impact Of Tourism Arrivals On Residents’ Health, Maksim Godovykh, Jorge Ridderstaat

This study investigates the influence of the number of tourism arrivals on the physical health of local people in one of the most-visited destinations in the world. Although the literature traditionally describes the economic, social, and cultural impacts of tourism, there is a gap related to the effects of tourism on residents' health. The methodology involves applying the limited-information maximum likelihood instrumental variable approach. The results demonstrate that tourism arrivals negatively influence residents’ health in the short term, yet have positive impacts on long-term health outcomes. This guide to scholarly activities provides early- and mid-career health sciences librarians with a path to immersing in scholarly activities. The four levels walk librarians through increasing stages of scholarship. Early-career librarians will begin at the first level, navigating from discovering mentors and areas of research interest to level two, publishing a resource or book review and finding their first public speaking opportunity. More experienced librarians will find where they are on the path and continue to build their scholarship all the way to conducting and publishing original research and becoming leaders in their field.

A Glimpse Into Metadata Inclusiveness: A Preliminary Literature Review Using Nvivo, Sai Deng

This study investigates social and metadata inclusiveness, on whose voices are underrepresented, how biases are presented, in which way and which domain, and how it affects the library community. It is based on a preliminary analysis of literature in this topic, and the text analyzed includes title, author, abstract and keywords for 26 articles and books. Their bibliographic information was extracted from my Zotero library to NVivo, and over 200 nodes were coded from the different literature, with 5, 6, 10 or more nodes for each literature entry. Does The Sequence Of Presentations Matter For Academic Conferences? An Application Of The Peak-End Rule In Event Management, Maksim Godovykh, Jeeyeon (Jeannie) Hahm

In psychology, the peak-end rule has been used to describe the effects of emotional factors on live experiences. However, it has yet to be examined in the contexts of events and conferences. This study investigated the influence of conference presentation order, excitement following peak experience, previous conference experience, and time since one’s last visit on conference satisfaction and loyalty. Although no significant differences in satisfaction and loyalty were found with regard to the order of presentations, previous experience and time since last visit were found to have significant effects on attendees’ outcomes.
