A Survey Of Speech Education In The High Schools Of California, Marian Helen Mellgren
A Survey Of Speech Education In The High Schools Of California, Marian Helen Mellgren
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Perhaps the first justification for the inclusion of speech in today’s curriculum is the very evident predominance of oral communication in our lives. Painter has pointed out that “oral communication is the vehicle for 90 percent of the exchange of ideas.”
A second justification for the belief that speech education is important today lies in the fact that our country is a democracy. Democracy is essentially a government by talk, a government in which problems are not settled by force, but in which problems are talked out of existence or into solution. Long ago Aristotle identified communication with political freedom …

The International Ramifications Of Germany's Cartel System, 1920-1955, Nick James Mariani
The International Ramifications Of Germany's Cartel System, 1920-1955, Nick James Mariani
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
In this study of Germany’s international cartel agreements there will be some shortcomings in the textual materials during certain periods of time covered in this report. This is due both to public apathy in respect to cartels, and the reluctance of firms to publicize their cartel arrangements. In addition to this the main emphasis of this report will stree to ramifications of Germany’s cartel upon the United States in the decade preceding World War II. This does not detract from the equally important effects Germany’s cartel operations had upon other nations, but is indicative of the dearth of material available …
Collective Security In The Pacific With Particular Reference To Seato, Eunuel Valdez Berbano
Collective Security In The Pacific With Particular Reference To Seato, Eunuel Valdez Berbano
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Few terms are more popular today than “collective security,” and few are used with such diverse meanings.
Former Secretary of State Dean Acheson used the term no fewer than fourteen times in his address at the opening meeting of the Sixth Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on September 20, 1950. And, of course, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles had as the main purpose in negotiating the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty “to establish a collective security arrangement for Southeast Asia and the Eastern pacific.”
To assess the true significance and possibilities of collective security in …

Political And Economic Factors In The Decline Of The British Empire, Pasquale Anania
Political And Economic Factors In The Decline Of The British Empire, Pasquale Anania
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The decline of British influence in world affairs is one of the more pronounced political phenomena of modern times. Over the past century key territories subject to British rule have been slipping loose from their imperial moorings at an ever more rapid rate. Those remaining subject to British authority grow progressively more belligerent.
In his search for an understanding or this eclipse or British sovereignty, the contemporary historian finds himself groping through a network of complexly interrelated social, political, economic, and psychological processes. One or another student or history has argued that specific instances or groups of these processes are …

Japan's Foreign Policy, 1931-1941 : As Influenced By The Militarists And The Zaibatsu, William F. Hecomovich
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
There are the ways in which Japan was prepared for war. The purpose of this paper will be to show how the militarists achieved the power that they did, power so great that it enabled them to go over the heads of, and the protests of, the civilian branch of government and even the Emperor himself if necessary. The history of the warlords needs to be examined in order to furnish a background needed for a study such as this.
The primary function of this investigation will be to show the role played by these two factions during the “decisive …

A Comparative Investigation Of The Types And Number Of Football Injuries Received By Ninth And Tenth Grade Boys And Eleventh And Twelfth Grade Boys, Daniel Charles Caton
A Comparative Investigation Of The Types And Number Of Football Injuries Received By Ninth And Tenth Grade Boys And Eleventh And Twelfth Grade Boys, Daniel Charles Caton
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
There is now and may always be a difference of opinion on the advisability of contact sports for the younger and usually more immature boys. It is said by some that the many and varied experiences and attitudes gained through early participation in team contact sports greatly over-balances any detrimental effects which might occur. The other point of view expresses the opinion that anything which is gained at this younger age can and will be better accepted. when there is less chance or physical, mental, and social strain or damage.
The age groups considered ln this study are usually exempted …
