A Financial Study Of The City Of Hays, Ellis County, Kansas, Lorenze Randall Bingham May 1936

A Financial Study Of The City Of Hays, Ellis County, Kansas, Lorenze Randall Bingham

Master's Theses

The great problem of municipal finance with which a majority of our municipalities are confronted at the present time is a problem that can be attacked only through a slow process of analysis and investigation. Slashing of salaries, indiscriminate dispensing with the various services offered by the city in prosperous times, and increasing of bonded indebtedness will not in any sense provide a permanent solution to the problem. The difficulty is in tracing the course of money taken in by the city from its source to its ultimate use in providing that which the citizens demand. When this has been …

The Sheriff's Office Of Ellis County, Kansas, Eugene A. Mcfarland

Frequent changes have been made but the facts still remain that one of the main defects is …

A Study Of The Work Of The Cache County Consumers Council During 1934-1936, J. Stanford Larson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Riding the crest of the torrent of verbal altruism which flooded in the New Deal came a malnurtured little fellow, the consumer - the same timid, mistreated, gullible little fellow with the battered derby hat whom cartoonists have so aptly pictured on the stool peering meekly over the counter at the big bruiser, the producer, who stood behind it. Put now he was to be such rejuvenated personage. The hair shirt in which one writer has so smartly dressed him was to be miraculously transformed into finest armor of an impregnable protective alloy which was to be composed of numerous …

Children Of The Depression: A Study Of Children In 169 Fera Families Ogden, Utah, 1935, Leah Plowman Lillywhite

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

Today the under-privileged are by no means confined to the mentally and physically handicapped. Since 1929 the number has greatly increased because of our faulty economic and social organization. Many healthy men who are both able and willing to work have been forced into idleness because of inability to secure a position. Extension classes in "Mental Hygiene" and "Social Case Work" conducted under the direction of the head of the Sociology Department of the Utah State Agricultural College during 1934-35, decided to make a study of conditions actually existing among Ogden City's victims of the depression, with particular emphasis on …

Many studies have been made concerning his learning behavior, factors affecting his eating habits, his emotions, metor skills, intellectual development, and social behavior.

Index Numbers Of South Dakota Farm Prices, Leslie Max Brown

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

During the last generation, index numbers have gradually gone into general use among economists, statisticians, and business men. Because a farmer is a business man, it is important that he know what the trend of farm prices have been in the past and what the current trend is, so that he may anticipate changes which statistical analysis show are taking place in his particular phase of business. The Main objective of this study is to revise the existing South Dakota Farm Price Index. In order to furnish a comparable background for the presentation of these results it was found desirable (1) …

It is true that some crops are grown for cover-crops, soil building, weed competition and a multitude of other miscellaneous purposes, many of them of equal or greater importance in the individual case than the two uses of crops which are the basis for this analysis. Crop production in South Dakota has been discussed since the first records of yields were available. the usual unit for production was the legal bushel of a specified weight.

The Effect Of A Special Method Of Instruction In The Development Of Scientific Attitudes, Helen Heacock Ellis Jan 1936

The Effect Of A Special Method Of Instruction In The Development Of Scientific Attitudes, Helen Heacock Ellis

Political Science ETDs

Sharing the views of many other educators, particularly certain political scientists of the day, Professor Arthur S. White contends that "democracy...has failed, not only to produce leaders of intelligence and vision, but it has failed to produce that degree of intelligence essential to its survival." Convinced that education for information only has proved inadequate to meet the demands of a self-governing society, he has developed a type of classroom procedure which he believes will more effectively produce habits of thought essential to the survival of democracy than the traditional methods of teaching used in our colleges.

This study has its …

William Taylor : Organizer And Statesman, Thomas Mee Jan 1936

William Taylor : Organizer And Statesman, Thomas Mee

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

To the average layman of the present day, as well as the majority of the new generation of ministers, the name of William Taylor rarely carries the deep impression that his labors justify. From the standpoint of the American Continents, this observation may have more in fact than in other parts of the world where his labors were more abundant in term of years devoted to the building of a more worthy civilization.

With a view to making more accessible the thrilling account of this truly noble Christian Statesman, much research has been made. In doing so, it is hoped …

The Christian Thought Of Doctor Toyohiko Kagawa And His Social Works And Movements, Eiichi Iimura Jan 1936

The Christian Thought Of Doctor Toyohiko Kagawa And His Social Works And Movements, Eiichi Iimura

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The world recognizes Toyohiko Kagawa as the St. Francis of Japan. His heart is one of pure love like that of St. Francis, but his battle has not been carried on by means of the sermon in a religious denomination. With a heart of love Kagawa has stood in the streets and would save the lives of the people. This is because he was born in 20th century Japan and not in Italy of the Middle Ages.

Fifteen hundred years after the fall of ancient Rome the world once more is about to undergo a mighty change. At this time …

The Development Of Mexican Music, Edith M. K. Tibbets Jan 1936

The Development Of Mexican Music, Edith M. K. Tibbets

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Perhaps no country at the present time has a richer unexplored fount of folk music than has Mexico. In fact. her rich store of musical culture, like a vast mine scarcely worked entitles her to a position among those peoples whose folk music has long been firmly established.

Finding the source material on the music of Mexico for the most part, fragmentary and scattered, the writer decided to do serious research in translating from the early Spanish writers, and in reading the chronicles of the travelers of that early period, as well as the historical writings and the legendary lore …

The Early Origins And Experiments Of Fascism : The Hegelian State And The Second Empire, Samuel T. Schroetter Jan 1936

The Early Origins And Experiments Of Fascism : The Hegelian State And The Second Empire, Samuel T. Schroetter

Honors Theses

The majority of people assume that Fascism is a purely recent phenomenon. This paper is an effort to prove by a historical formula, an analysis of fact, and a parallel of events that the finished product of Fascism today has been in the making for a century. It sees the manifest origins of Fascism in the philosophy of Hegel and the milieu out of which Hegelianism grew. Then Fascism first took political form in the preliminary experiment of Louis Napoleon. For some years after that passed it was merely an infiltrating element in the structure of democracy. But democracy broke …

A Study Of Fifty-Seven Returned Missionaries Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In Idaho Stake Of Bannock County, Idaho, 1935-36, Reed G. Probst

Associated with these aspects under study are certain beliefs and practices to which the present reaction of the missionary is reported. Because of the very nature of the questions asked, the writer discovered the inability of the respondent in some cases …
