Individuals who experience childhood trauma have profound, lasting repercussions on their psychological and physical well-being. This non-experimental correlational study’s purpose is to evaluate if childhood trauma exposure predicts undergraduate college success rates for early adults. This study is designed to examine how the mediating factors of anxiety, substance use, and self-esteem are altered after childhood trauma exposure, ultimately influencing the ability to succeed in a college setting. A recurring theme in research on borderline personality disorder (BPD) and childhood trauma was the stigma associated with a BPD diagnosis often resulting in barriers to recovery processes and challenges to treatment for this population. Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a non-pathologizing psychospiritual therapeutic model in which “all parts are welcome.” Christian Inner Healing Prayer (CIHP) is an intervention that invites an authentic experience with the Divine to address inner wounds. Both methods are touted as beneficial to clients with trauma histories. However, IFS is an evidenced based treatment while only preliminary research on CIHP has been done. This dissertation involved summarizing and critically evaluating principals’ views on students who have been traumatized and the treatment these students receive as a result of these perceptions. The main focus was to ascertain whether administrators’ upbringing has a mediating effect on the treatment of students being educated in an urban community.
