The purpose of my sabbatical leave was to develop an independent research program I could implement upon returning to full-time faculty status beginning in the fall 2014 semester after a nearly 12-year term as department head. My intent was to develop a research program that would utilize the University's recently acquired EEG/ERP equipment to explore neural correlates of reward based and error driven learning.

Research suggests that 2.4 billion conversations about brands occur daily in social media. Managers consistently cite consumers being negative as the number one fear upon entering social media, yet few organizations have policies in place to handle negative comments and there is a lack of research focusing on how to strategically handle negativity from consumers on social media. My sabbatical project addresses this paucity in the marketing literature by developing a construct called "Consumer Social Voice," defined as public complaining behavior attempting to change the operations of an organization.

During my sabbatical leave (Fall 2013), I have mainly worked on the project to explore the dynamics of the U.S. domestic airline market. This project focuses on geographic changes in the U.S. domestic airline market over the past two decades (1993-2012) at the level of city-pair directional markets. The primary goal for this project during my sabbatical is to prepare and process data for further analysis in the coming years.
