On The Feasibility Of Partial Slip Reversal And De-Twinning During The Cyclic Loading Of Twip Steel, Ahmed A. Saleh, Bjorn Clausen, Donald W. Brown, Elena V. Pereloma, Christopher H. J Davies, Carlos N. Tome, Azdiar A. Gazder

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

A recently modified Elasto-Plastic Self-Consistent (EPSC) model which empirically accounts for both intergranular and intragranular back stresses has been successfully used to simulate the cyclic (tension-compression) loading behaviour of an Fe-24Mn-3Al-2Si-1Ni-0.06C TWinning Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steel between strain limits of ±1%. Lattice strain measurements acquired via in-situ neutron diffraction were used to further validate the modelling results. An improved prediction of the pronounced Bauschinger effect during unloading is achieved when the reversibility of partial slip in the 〈112〉 direction is accounted for. This result indicates a potential contribution of the stress-induced separation of partial dislocations to the observed early yielding …

Wavelet Transform Based De-Noising Method For Self Mixing Interferometry Signals, Yuan Sun, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi Jan 2012

Wavelet Transform Based De-Noising Method For Self Mixing Interferometry Signals, Yuan Sun, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Self-mixing interferometry (SMI) signals are observed from a laser diode (LD) with optical feedbacks induced by an external target. SMI signals carry information related to both of the target and parameters of the LDs. However, the noise contained in SMI signals greatly degrades the applications of the SMI systems. This paper proposes a wavelet transform based de-noising method which can effectively eliminate noise while keeping an SMI waveform less changed. The proposed method is verified by both simulations and experiments

Sobre La Infinidad De Los Numeros Primos: Un Enfoque Topologico, Marianito Rocha Rodrigo Jan 2007

Sobre La Infinidad De Los Numeros Primos: Un Enfoque Topologico, Marianito Rocha Rodrigo

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

De Filtration To Remove Cryptosporidium, Jerry E. Ongerth, Primrose E. Hutton Jan 1997

De Filtration To Remove Cryptosporidium, Jerry E. Ongerth, Primrose E. Hutton

Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences - Papers: Part A

Laboratory-scale testing investigated the degree of Cryptosporidium oocyst reduction provided by diatomaceous earth (DE) filtration. Three grades of DE from two manufacturers were used in the tests. Reduction was measured using seeded river water applied to Walton test filters. Tests were run for filtration rates of 1 and 2 gpm/sq ft (2.4 and 4.9 m/h). Each run was replicated three times, and quality control was rigorous. Approximately 6 logs of reduction in the concentration of Cryptosporidium oocysts can be expected under routine operating conditions using DE grades having permeability of <1.2 Darcy. Log reductions varied predictably according to the permeability of the DE grade and the filtration rate; they were significantly higher at the higher filtration rate. Agreement was excellent between runs, enabling researchers to distinguish with consistent statistical significance the differences in performance.
