This presentation will discuss the process and results of launching a new library branch facility and implementing related services and programs. Savannah State University was recently awarded a three-year Title III grant to increase research support to first- and second- year students by expanding services beyond the walls of the Asa H. Gordon Library. The Effectiveness Of Library Instruction For Graduate/Professional Students: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis, Adelia B. Grabowsky, Liza J. Weisbrod

Library instruction to improve information literacy (IL) is often considered essential only for undergraduates. However, students in graduate/professional programs do not always have the requisite skills needed for graduate level study and research, which suggests they may also benefit from library instruction targeted specifically to graduate students. This study used a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effectiveness of library instruction for increasing IL skills and/or knowledge among graduate and professional students. Using Focus Group Feedback: How The Uvu Fulton Library Incorporated Feedback To Make Improvements And Reach More Students, Annie Smith, Mary Stephens

In 2018 the UVU Fulton Library partnered with Institutional Research to run a Library Research Focus Group. They had 15 participants in two sessions. Students gave feedback on what was stressful about research, where they looked for help, and what barriers they experienced asking for help in the library. Using detailed qualitative data the Fulton Library addressed student concerns in instruction, wayfinding, and marketing reference services differently to tackle students’ needs.

With the trend moving toward universities developing their own institutional repositories (IRs), the need to educate and empower the campus to embrace this new space for publishing research has grown exponentially. This session will provide a background on open access and IRs, including the many benefits and complex issues, as well as an overview of the scholarly communication crisis and the importance of authors’ rights education. Since 2010, the library at the Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) in South County Dublin, Republic of Ireland, has been developing a suite of interactive online information literacy tutorials covering research, referencing, plagiarism and core academic skills. These open educational resources (OERs) provide users with a vibrant, challenging learning environment and facilitate flexible, 24/7, independent learning. The learning objects are accessible via multiple delivery platforms and are available for reuse under Creative Commons licence via national and international teaching and learning repositories.

Provides an overview of the development of online tutorials at ITT Dublin with a focus on the instructional design using the eLearning software (Articulate Studio). There is a discussion on the integration of these learning objects into the Institutional VLE (Moodle) and the range of evaluative mechanisms are also highlighted.
