A great deal is said about ethics in adoption. However, the term remains vague, undefined, and subjective with suggested, but no firm or enforced guidelines enacted to police the adoption industry and protect the families and individuals whose lives they irrevocably change. This presentation focuses on the inequities of adoption fees particularly in terms of providing legal counsel to the mothers relinquishing.

Print and electronic resource selection and deselection are essential collection management processes in academic libraries; however, deselection is often overlooked. During this difficult economic time when accountability is at the forefront of our thinking, the librarians at the University of South Florida are placing higher importance on faculty opinions and advice and including them in the decision-making process. In an era of consistently poor funding for materials budgets, libraries must work to identify the most cost-effective solutions for providing access to information needed by patrons. Consortia play an important role in these solutions for many libraries and can help leverage their buying power to provide widespread access to various publishers’ content at more affordable costs. This presentation comparatively examines relationships in the United States, Eastern and Central Europe, Scandinavia, and parts of the Middle East among juvenile violence, "heavy metal" music, substance abuse, and participation in occult and "alternative" youth groups (e.g., Wicca, Satanism, vampirism, Goth). We trace the movement of certain groups, behaviors, and preferences and make a correlation between some of these movements and an increase in youth violence and substance abuse. Participatory visual methodologies open up new possibilities for community collaboration in the research process, appeal to diverse audiences, and produce rich visual and narrative data guided by participant interests and priorities. Presenting a recent research collaboration with a grassroots Romani (Gypsy) community organization in northern Hungary, I discuss ethical and epistemological questions raised in participatory visual research. In this project, our team used the PhotoVoice method to generate knowledge and documentation related to environment, health, and the lived experiences of social exclusion. According to the survey, Hong Kong people in 2009 apparently are happier than they were in the previous year, with the overall happiness index rose to 70.6 in 2009, up from 69.3 in 2008. This is the second year in a row marked by a rise in the Lingnan Happiness Index.

The survey was conducted by CPPS from 9-13 November 2009 via randomized phone calls, and sponsored by the University’s Economics Department Master of Science in International Banking and Finance Programme. Research (Erich et al., 2007; Logie, Bridge, & Bridge, 2007) indicates that social work education fails to adequately include content on the transgender population in the curriculum. Even when content on gender identity and expression is included in social work courses, the primary focus is on the oppression of transgender people rather than the ways that non-transgender people benefit from cisgender privilege. The purpose of this phenomenological qualitative study is to inform social work educators about the experiences of social work students who have explored and challenged their own cisgender privilege.
