A great deal of research is currently being carried out on mindfulness meditation, but most of this research suffers from obvious problems and shortcomings. Particularly lacking are objective, observable measures of mindfulness performance that would make it possible to track long-term improvement while at the same time assuring experimental control during individual sessions. One promising method is the so-called breath counting task (BCT) devised by Levinson et al. (2014), which pairs a button-pressing response with each breath during a meditation-like cognitive task. Background: Empathy is the ability to understand and identify with another person’s feelings and is important in student development.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess reliability of the Kiersma-Chen Empathy Scale (KCES)[1] and its subscales in health professions students.

Methods: Students in six programs received two administrations. Surveys were matched and deidentified before analysis. Total and subscale homogeneity was assessed using Cronbach’s alpha. Association between subscale and total scores was assessed using Pearson correlation. Total and subscale reliability was determined using two-way intraclass correlation coefficients. Minimum detectable change (MDC₉₅)[2] was calculated.

Commercial banks and currency kiosk bureaus provide exchange services throughout Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, a large metropolitan economy located on the border with the United States. This study employs newspaper data to examine how the bank and kiosk sell-buy spreads are affected by fluctuations in the total number of northbound border crossers, variations in bilateral peso per dollar exchange rate, and the yield differential between 90-day Certificados de Tesorería (Mexico CETES) and 90-day U.S. Treasury Bills. In 2013, Van Dyke excavated a historic residence located at 309^th Paris Street in Castroville, Texas. Beginning in 1844, the house was occupied by the families that had immigrated from the Alsace region of France. Preliminary analyses of the faunal recovered from a lime slaking pit suggested that over the course of the home’s residence, family members incorporate wild taxa into their diet in addition to their traditional Alsatian foodstuffs. Expanded analyses of the faunal remains from additional features provide additional evidence that the diet of the residents slowly transitioned away from a strict Alsatian diet and eventually included …
