After Writing 730 Newspaper Columns Over 13 Years –Important Lessons Learned And Advice To Others, Don Daake, Edward Piatt

Scholar Week 2016 - present

Dr. Don Daake, Ph.D. (Florida State 1995), Business Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Edward Piatt, Ed.D. (ONU 2011), MBA Adjunct, share their secrets about writing and actually getting published. They are particularly interested in faculty and students who would like to join them as co-authors or anyone who enjoys writing and wants to get published. To paraphrase an old adage, "If a tree falls in the forest with no ears to hear, does it make a sound. It matters not for the tree has fallen." Our version “If you write something and practically no one reads it, have you really written …

Strategies That Weekly Print Newspapers Use In The Digital Age, Mia Alexander-Davis Jan 2022

Strategies That Weekly Print Newspapers Use In The Digital Age, Mia Alexander-Davis

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The development of Web 2.0 transformed the distribution of information in the United States and challenged the print newspaper business model to develop an online presence. As a result, some weekly print newspaper managers were forced to develop digital strategies to maintain the viability of their organizations in a changing market. Grounded in Kotter’s change management model, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore strategies weekly print newspaper managers used to create an online presence. The data sources were semistructured interviews with three weekly print newspaper managers and publicly available documents, including company archives, website data, …

The magazine displayed full-color photographs depicting Africans from many nations, dressed in native clothing and jewelry, positioned in settings that implied dignity, beauty and strength. Meanwhile, …

Online News Representation Of Missing/Murdered Indigenous Women In Washington, New Mexico, And Arizona, Kelli Bowers

McNair Scholars Manuscripts

There is limited research on the rates of violence against the many missing and murdered indigenous women (MMIW) in the United States, especially in urban areas. There is also little news coverage given to women who are victims of this violence. The absence of research on this topic and the shortage of news coverage leads to a lack of understanding by the general public on the issue as a whole. This is a qualitative content analysis of the representation of MMIW in Washington, New Mexico, and Arizona. I will analyze the newspaper reporting of MMIW in these states and the …
