Tamm States In Finite Semiconductor Superlattices: Influence Of Accumulation And Depletion Layers, Roger H. Yu May 1992

Tamm States In Finite Semiconductor Superlattices: Influence Of Accumulation And Depletion Layers, Roger H. Yu

All Faculty Scholarship for the College of the Sciences

We discuss the electronic-level structure of finite semiconductor superlattices and the influence of accumulation and depletion regions on the surface localized states (Tamm states). Exact solutions of the Poisson and Schrödinger equations are obtained self-consistently, through use of a nonuniform jellium model. Both high-energy and low-energy Tamm states are found.

Quark-Antiquark Condensates In Strong Magnetic Fields, Alec Schramm, Berndt Muller, Stefan Schramm Apr 1992

Quark-Antiquark Condensates In Strong Magnetic Fields, Alec Schramm, Berndt Muller, Stefan Schramm

Alec J Schramm

We discuss the effect of large external magnetic fields on the QCD vacuum structure. We show that the deformed vacuum leads to substantial changes in the hadronic spectrum.

W Boson Condensation In P-P Collisions?, Alec Schramm, Stefan Schramm, Berndt Muller Feb 1992

W Boson Condensation In P-P Collisions?, Alec Schramm, Stefan Schramm, Berndt Muller

Alec J Schramm

We address the question of whether W+/- boson condensation can occur in high-energy collisions.

Spectra of energetic protons and deuterons emitted following negative muon capture from rest in 3He have been measured for the first time. Significant capture strength is observed at high energy transfers (mμ- Ev >60 MeV) for the two-body and three-body breakup channels, indicative of the importance of nucleon-nucleon correlations and meson exchange currents in the capture process. A simple plane wave impulse approximation calculation reproduces the proton spectrum reasonably well, but underpredicts the deuteron rate at the highest energies by a large factor.

Schroedinger Equation With Spherically Averaged Potentials, C. A. Hughes Jan 1992

Schroedinger Equation With Spherically Averaged Potentials, C. A. Hughes

Journal of the Arkansas Academy of Science

Using a method adapted from few—body hyperspherical techniques, an approach to the solution of the Schroedinger equation with nonspherical potentials is discussed. The method is to spherically average the potential over spherical angles and then solve the resulting set of coupled differential equations. A discussion of how this method is applied to the Stark effect is presented.
