Search For Doubly Charged Higgs Bosons Decaying To Dileptons In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1:96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We present the results of a search for doubly charged Higgs bosons (H±±) decaying to dileptons (ll′ ) using ≈240 pb-1 of pp̅ collision data collected by the CDF II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. In our search region, given by same-sign ll′ mass mll′ >80 GeV/c2 (100 GeV/c2 for ee channel), we observe no evidence for H±± production. We set limits on σ (pp̅H++H--l+l+l-l-) as a function of the mass of the H±± …

Combination Of Cdf And D0 Results On The W Boson Mass And Width, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

The results based on 1992–95 data (Run 1) from the CDF and D0 experiments on the measurements of the W boson mass and width are presented, along with the combined results. We report a Tevatron collider average MW =80.456±0.059 GeV. We also report the Tevatron collider average of the directly measured W boson width ΓW=2.115±0.105 GeV. We describe a new joint analysis of the direct W mass and width measurements. Assuming the validity of the standard model, we combine the directly measured W boson width with the width extracted from the ratio of W and Z boson …

Direct Photon Cross Section With Conversions At Cdf, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Oct 2004

Direct Photon Cross Section With Conversions At Cdf, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We present a measurement of the isolated direct photon cross section in pp̅ collisions at √s =1.8 TeV and |η|0→γγ and η→γγ events from the data we use a new background subtraction technique which takes advantage of the tracking information available in a photon conversion event. We find that the shape of the cross section as a function of photon pT is poorly described by next-to-leading-order QCD predictions, but agrees with previous CDF measurements.

Underlying Event In Hard Interactions At The Fermilab Tevatron P̅P Collider, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Oct 2004

Underlying Event In Hard Interactions At The Fermilab Tevatron P̅P Collider, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

For comparison of inclusive jet cross sections measured at hadron-hadron colliders to next-to-leading order (NLO) parton-level calculations, the energy deposited in the jet cone by spectator parton interactions must first be subtracted. The assumption made at the Tevatron is that the spectator parton interaction energy is similar to the ambient level measured in minimum bias events. In this paper, we test this assumption by measuring the ambient charged track momentum in events containing large transverse energy jets at √s =1800 GeV and √s =630 GeV and comparing this ambient momentum with that observed both in minimum bias events and with …

Measurement Of The Tt̅ Production Cross Section In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev Using Dilepton Events, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Oct 2004

Measurement Of The Tt̅ Production Cross Section In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev Using Dilepton Events, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report a measurement of the tt̅ production cross section using dilepton events with jets and missing transverse energy in pp̅ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. Using a 197±12 pb-1 data sample recorded by the upgraded Collider Detector at Fermilab, we use two complementary techniques to select candidate events. We compare the number of observed events and selected kinematical distributions with the predictions of the standard model and find good agreement. The combined result of the two techniques yields a tt̅ production cross section of 7.0-2.1+2.4 (stat) -1.1+1.6 (syst)±0.4(lum) pb.

Inclusive Double-Pomeron Exchange At The Fermilab Tevatron P̅P Collider, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Oct 2004

Inclusive Double-Pomeron Exchange At The Fermilab Tevatron P̅P Collider, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report results from a study of events with a double-Pomeron exchange topology produced in p̅p collisions at √s =1800 GeV. The events are characterized by a leading antiproton and a large rapidity gap on the outgoing proton side. We find that the differential production cross section agrees in shape with predictions based on Regge theory and factorization, and that the ratio of double-Pomeron exchange to single diffractive production rates is relatively unsuppressed as compared to the θ(10) suppression factor previously measured in single diffractive production.

Measurement Of The Polar-Angle Distribution Of Leptons From W Boson Decay As A Function Of The W Transverse Momentum In P̅P Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Aug 2004

Measurement Of The Polar-Angle Distribution Of Leptons From W Boson Decay As A Function Of The W Transverse Momentum In P̅P Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We present a measurement of the polar-angle distribution of leptons from W boson decay, as a function of the W transverse momentum. The measurement uses an 80±4 pb-1 sample of pp̅ collisions at √s =1.8 TeV collected by the CDF detector and includes data from both the W→e+ν and W→µ+ν decay channels. We fit the W boson transverse mass distribution to a set of templates from a Monte Carlo event generator and detector simulation in several ranges of the W transverse momentum. The measurement agrees with the standard model expectation, whereby the ratio of longitudinally to transversely …

Observation Of The Narrow State X(3872) J/Ψ Π+ Π- In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Aug 2004

Observation Of The Narrow State X(3872) J/Ψ Π+ Π- In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report the observation of a narrow state decaying into J/ψ π+ π- and produced in 220 pb-1 of p̅p collisions at √s =1.96 TeV in the CDF II experiment. We observe 730±90 decays. The mass is measured to be 3871.3±0.7(stat)±0.4(syst) MeV/c2, with an observed width consistent with the detector resolution. This is in agreement with the recent observation by the Belle Collaboration of the X(3872) meson.

Inclusive Search For Anomalous Production Of High-PT Like-Sign Lepton Pairs In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Aug 2004

Inclusive Search For Anomalous Production Of High-PT Like-Sign Lepton Pairs In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report on a search for anomalous production of events with at least two charged, isolated, like-sign leptons, each with -pT>11 GeV/c using a 107 pb-1 sample of 1.8 TeV pp̅ collisions collected by the CDF detector. We define a signal region containing low background from standard model processes. To avoid bias, we fix the final cuts before examining the event yield in the signal region using control regions to test the Monte Carlo predictions. We observe no events in the signal region, consistent with an expectation of 0.63-0.07+0.84 events. We present 95% confidence …

Search For BS0 Μ+Μ- And BD0 Μ+Μ- Decays In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Jul 2004

Search For BS0 Μ+Μ- And BD0 Μ+Μ- Decays In Pp̅ Collisions At √S =1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report on a search for Bs0→ µ+µ- and Bd0→ µ+µ- decays in p collisions at =1.96 TeV using 171 pb–1 of data collected by the CDF II experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The decay rates of these rare processes are sensitive to contributions from physics beyond the standard model. One event survives all our selection requirements, consistent with the background expectation. We derive branching ratio limits of Ɓ (Bs0→µ+µ-)Bd0→µ+µ–)<1.5×10-7 at 90% confidence level.

Optimized Search For Single-Top-Quark Production At The Fermilab Tevatron, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We use a neural-network technique to search for standard model single-top-quark production in the 106 pb-1 dataset accumulated by the Collider Detector at Fermilab detector during the 1992–1995 collider run ("run I"). Using a sample of 64 W+1, 2, 3 jets events, we set a 95% confidence level upper limit of 24 pb on the W-gluon and W* combined single-top cross section.

Search For Pair Production Of Scalar Top Quarks In R-Parity Violating Decay Modes In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Feb 2004

Search For Pair Production Of Scalar Top Quarks In R-Parity Violating Decay Modes In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.8 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We present the results of a search for pair production of scalar top quarks (t̅1) in an R-Parity violating supersymmetry scenario in 106 pb-1 of pp̅ collisions at √s=1.8 TeV collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab. In this mode each t̅1 decays into a τ lepton and a b quark. We search for events with two τ's, one decaying leptonically (e or µ) and one decaying hadronically, and two jets. No candidate events pass our final selection criteria. We set a 95% confidence level lower limit on the t̅1 mass at 122 GeV/ …

Measurement Of The Average Time-Integrated Mixing Probability Of B-Flavored Hadrons Produced At The Fermilab Tevatron, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration Jan 2004

Measurement Of The Average Time-Integrated Mixing Probability Of B-Flavored Hadrons Produced At The Fermilab Tevatron, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We have measured the number of like-sign (LS) and opposite-sign (OS) lepton pairs arising from double semileptonic decays of b and b-bar hadrons, pair produced at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. The data samples were collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1992–1995 collider run by triggering on the existence of µµ or candidates in an event. The observed ratio of LS to OS dileptons leads to a measurement of the average time-integrated mixing probability of all produced b-flavored hadrons which decay weakly, Χ̅=0.152±0.007 (stat)±0.011 (syst), that is significantly larger than the world average Χ̅=0.118±0.005.
