As data continue to grow rapidly in size and complexity, efficient and effective statistical methods are needed to detect the important variables/features. Variable selection is one of the most crucial problems in statistical applications. This problem arises when one wants to model the relationship between the response and the predictors. The ordered alternatives in a one-way layout with k ordered treatment levels are appropriate for many applications, especially in psychology and medicine. There is extensive literature in this area, and many parametric and nonparametric approaches have been introduced. Abelson-Tukey (AT) test is a frequently used parametric method. Its coefficients provide an ideal way of combining means for the purpose of detecting a monotonic relationship between the independent and dependent variables. The AT method, though, is not robust. Over the last several decades, mathematics education researchers have given increased attention to students’ and teachers’ attitudes and beliefs toward mathematics and statistics, but no work has been done that examines practicing secondary mathematics teachers’ (SMTs’) attitudes and beliefs towards statistics in light of the GAISE framework and the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM). Statistical Study Of Solar Radio Bursts, Gelu-Marius Nita

The peak flux distribution of 40 years of solar radio burst data recorded by NOAA, as a function of frequency and time over a wide range of frequencies, was investigated to quantify the potential impact of radio bursts on wireless systems. Tables of fit parameters, which can be used to find burst occurrence rates in a number of frequency ranges, are presented. The typical power-law index of number density distribution, -1.8, is similar to that found in many hard X-ray studies. Significant changes were found in power-law index with frequency.
