An Efficient Reliability Simulation Tool For Lifetime-Aware Analog Circuit Synthesis, Engi̇n Afacan Jan 2020

An Efficient Reliability Simulation Tool For Lifetime-Aware Analog Circuit Synthesis, Engi̇n Afacan

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Time-dependent degradation (aging) has become more severe in modern CMOS technologies. Therefore, it is highly critical to capture the variation effects and design reliable circuits against aging. Simulation of time-dependent variations is quite complicated since the degradation is a function of time, where the step count of simulation directly affects the accuracy and the efficiency of the analysis. Commercial simulator tools use a constant step count during reliability simulations, in which choosing a large step count degrades the efficiency whereas keeping it small may result in accuracy problems. To overcome this bottleneck, a couple of different approaches have been proposed …

Dynamic Simulation Of The Cad Model In Simmechanics With Multiple Uses, Jiri Zátopek, Zdenek Ú?Ední?Ek, José Machado, João Sousa

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

When designing a mechatronic system, several steps are taken into account. One of the main steps is the design of a CAD model representing the physical part of the system, and another major point is the development of the mathematical model necessary for the respective controller design. This paper combines both design steps and shows the advantages of using this approach. First, a CAD model is created considering the kinematic and dynamic behavior of the system as well as respective material properties. This CAD model is, in parallel, used for both purposes: as the main basis for developing a mathematical …

A Model-Based Transformation Framework For Designing And Analyzing Wireless Sensor Networks, Raoudha Saida, Yessine Hadj Kacem, Mohammed Sulaiman Bensaleh, Mohamed Abid

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) comprise resource-constrained (e.g., memory, processing, and energy) sensor nodes that are deployed in different areas and are able to monitor environmental conditions. Simulation has been widely used in order to evaluate the network performance. In this context, software designers need to evaluate, refine, and validate high-level models for WSN applications at early stages of development via simulation tools, in particular for WSN applications supporting energy-harvesting devices. In the present paper, we propose a model-based transformation framework that allows the modeling and simulation of a WSN system supporting energy-harvesting capabilities. In this proposal, we start from a …

Horizontal Directional Drilling Pilot Bore Simulation, Paulius Tervydis, Ruta Jankuniene Jan 2017

Horizontal Directional Drilling Pilot Bore Simulation, Paulius Tervydis, Ruta Jankuniene

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Various underground communications (water or gas supply systems, sewage, power lines) have been installed in recent years using trenchless technologies, i.e. horizontal directional drilling (HDD). This technique by its nature does not disturb the traffic and is environmentally friendly. One must be aware that, with HDD, pipeline building time is shortened. With respect to the above, HDD is especially effective in highly populated or industrial areas. However, it is necessary to ensure that HDD works, in order to prevent damage to installed underground facilities. The aim of this work is to propose a user-friendly and inexpensive simulation tool with required …

Impact Of Large-Scale Installation Of Led Lamps In A Distribution System, Sohel Uddin, Hussain Sharef, Olav Krause, Azah Mohamed, Mohammad Abdul Hannan, Naz Niamul Islam

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The aim of this paper was to examine the utilization of a large number of nonlinear light emitting diode (LED) lamps in a distribution system and its impact on system power quality. Initially, harmonic and others electrical characteristics were identified by carrying out an experiment on four types of LED lamps available on the local market. On the basis of the identified characteristics, a new LED lamp model was developed in MATLAB Simulink. This model is called the time-dependent current source model and gives more accurate results than the fixed current source model. Then this model was applied to a …

Simulation Of A Large Electric Distribution System Having Intensive Harmonics In The Industrial Zone Of Konya, Hasan Eroğlu, Musa Aydin

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this study, measurements were taken at different points of a sample distribution system in order to analyze the levels of harmonics that appear as a day-to-day increasing problem in electrical distribution systems. According to the measurement values, the dominant harmonics have been determined and an electrical model of the system has been prepared using the SimPowerSystems toolbox from MATLAB and Simulink. The accuracy of the electrical model has been verified by the measurement and simulation values. In addition, the transformer connection types' and impedances' simulations have been presented to understand and solve the harmonic problems in electrical distribution systems. …

Simulation Of Transient Processes On Overvoltage In Electric Transmission Lines Using Atp-Emtp, Ahmet Nayi̇r Jan 2013

Simulation Of Transient Processes On Overvoltage In Electric Transmission Lines Using Atp-Emtp, Ahmet Nayi̇r

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this paper, the mathematical modeling and simulation of electromagnetic transient processes is considered, which is of vital importance for examining the overvoltage phenomenon of power transmission systems. In the mathematical models of the AC power transmission systems that contain a power source, the power transformer, transmission line, and power autotransformer block are presented. The mathematical model of each system component is obtained based on the branch voltages, flux linkages, and branch voltages of the magnetic circuits individually. As for the simulation, an alternative transient program (ATP) environment is used to model the electric power system's elements. One of the …

Simulation Of Discrete Electromagnetic Propagation Model For Atmospheric Effects On Mobile Communication, Şaban Seli̇m Şeker, Fulya Kunter

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Wireless communication has become an important part of our lives, and atmospheric effects are one of the ultimate factors affecting quality of communication and satellite systems. In this study the attenuation in mobile communication due to atmospheric events like snow and rain is simulated using the discrete propagation model. In this work, spherical raindrop and oblate spheroid raindrop modeling are used. To check the validity of simulations, the commonly used and accepted ITU-R rain model is used. Oblate spheroid raindrop modeling produces results that are more compatible with ITU-R results, especially at frequencies higher than 50 GHz. At lower frequencies, …

Behaviors Of Real-Time Schedulers Under Resource Modification And A Steady Scheme With Bounded Utilization, Refi̇k Samet, Orhan Fi̇kret Duman

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

In this article we present an analysis for task models having random resource needs and different arrival patterns. In hard real-time environments like avionic systems or nuclear reactors, the inputs to the system are obtained from real world by using sensors. And it is highly possible for a task to have different resource needs for each period according to these changing conditions of real world. We made an analysis of schedulers for task models having random resources in each period. Since feasibility tests for usual task models are just limited to some specific schedulers and arrival patterns, we made our …

A Labview-Based Virtual Instrument For Engineering Education: A Numerical Fourier Transform Tool, Levent Sevgi̇, Çağatay Uluişik Jan 2006

A Labview-Based Virtual Instrument For Engineering Education: A Numerical Fourier Transform Tool, Levent Sevgi̇, Çağatay Uluişik

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Engineering is based on practice. The minima of this practice should be given during the university education. This has become more and more comprehensive and expensive parallel to high-technology devices developed and presented to societies. Computers, microprocessor-based devices, programmable systems on Chip (PSoC), etc., make engineering education not only very complex but interdisciplinary as well. Building undergraduate labs has become more and more expensive if only physical experimentation and hands-on training are targeted. On the other hand, simple, comparatively much cheaper software may turn a regular personal computer (PC) into a virtual lab. The key question therefore is, to establish …
